Get the money up front (at least half of it).

Sorry to hear about your class. Sometimes things come up. I hope that they had the good manners to call and to let you know they wouldn't be showing up. If not, that is why some instructors insist on a non-refundable deposit. :tiphat:

A deposit is a comittment. If something comes up to cause the applicant to miss the scheduled class, they are prepaid and first on the list for the next class.

I have been teaching Captain classes and I learned early on..."No Deposit.. No show" at least 97% of the time....

I agree "A depositment is a commitment"..

It'll grt better with time..

I don't set classes in the future just based on my time schedule, but when I have folks that want to take it.
I book classes in advance for as many as 8>10, but I have also ended up having a class for one, a few times.

my last class was supposed to have been 6 , 3 showed
it happens , the real people who want a license will show , just do what you can put a good class on and others will com , word of mouth , friends of students will come, trust me it will get better and its great when theres students , but at times its the desert.... ;-)

Yes & I told the Wife & Mom I was a little dissappointed but it was no deal breaker at all. Here it is not like I have to drive 36 miles to my classroom.

I know I am getting started. Here in the Piny Woods there are no Deposits. Only one like irb111 takes names until they have a class & then sets the date.

I was the only one at my 1st time & knew there would be some no shows. Especially on the Monday Tuesday evening classes. I am the only one here that is doing those. That is going to take some time for folks to get used to & decide they are worth using.

1st M/T evening class I had 3. My 2nd will be tomorrow. Will see there.
All in all my attitude about Instructing is summed up in :woohoo :thewave :thumbs2: :hurry: :clapping:

LT,

Our new instructor here in Rusk is requiring deposits and he's had 75% attendance in his 2 classes so far. In fact, Austin has raised his rates and people are still signing up from as far as Tyler, Lufkin and Longview. The 'no-shows' are pre-booked into the next class.

No deposit no comittment sends a message both directions. Your and Mrs. LT's time, travel and efforts should not be free.

Best wishes.

I didn't take registration payments prior to my first class last weekend. I ended up with 19, but I offered a very discounted class for the first one. Half a dozen of the 19 were friends or family.

My next class, I will get the registration and payment arrangements before the class. I am doing a one day class, and have to travel and set up the classroom down in the next county. I am not going to do that on a promise to appear for a class.

I think the other instructors in our area make sure some form of payment arrangements are made prior to the class as well.

Think it over and good luck with your next class.
