*Disclaimer* I have searched here, and the DPS website and I cannot find out how much the class to become an instructor costs. ( I am a 1st year law student and surviving on student loans, so I am on a fixed budget.) But, I am very interested in becoming an instructor. It would be a good way to make some supplementary income to help during my tight times in school, and help those who are interested in becoming responsible, armed citizens. Can someone answer this please?

Also, I just recently got my CHL (within the last month), are there any restrictions on how long you have to be a CHL holder before you can become an instructor. If there is any other pertinent information that y'all could share, I will be greatly appreciative.

The instructor application fee is $100. You do not have to be a CHL holder to become an instructor.

Might also want to mention that if you have a CHL, then the instructor class will cover your next renewal.

This being the "off" year the class is only $50 (prorated).

Thank you very much, sir. Thats exactly what I was looking for. So this being an "off" year, what is the difference in taking the class during one of the odd numbered years after session?

$50 and one year license. You'll then get on the odd year rotation when you renew next summer. You're just jumping in the middle of the license period so you only pay half.

So then when I were to renew next summer the instuctor's license would be good for two yrs?

Interesting. I too was charged $100. They told me when my packet was received they would issue a check for $50 refund.
They got the packet weeks ago (USPS Return Receipt to prove it), I was approved etc. ..... still no check. I'll look for a
reverse charge on my next CC bill. If it's not there then I guess I'll have to start a calling and email campaign.
