I borrowed a S&W 28-2

Went to the zone today to practice with the 357 revolver. I must say it was humbling . I was OK at 3-7 with most rounds 10s but at 15 different story. i MUST practice! . I was surprised that the 6in S&W had as much kick as it does, it felt good though.

I am surprised about all the emphasis placed on shooting. It'strange that marksmanship is not taught to students
but so much importance is placed on scoring. I do not think it matters if I can hit the broad side of a barn because this is not taught in class. Just talking out loud, yes my wife sez I 'm crazy

Are you shooting .357s or .38s? If .357 switch to .38 lot less recoil also, shoot single action rather than double action till you get the feel of the gun. When's your class I'm going June 1-4.

It takes practice with any new gun. I have a .357 Mag Colt Python with a 4 inch barrel. When I first starting shooting it, it was hard for me to shoot accurately, but after a while it was much easier to control. The biggest problem for me was the shorter sight radius, but after getting used to it, I did fine. Now, I can shoot it as well as any of my semi-autos. As you implied, concentrate on marksmanship basics and you will do fine.

I forgot about .38s, I spent 20.00 box on Monarch brass 357, thanks and I will remember next time. I figure I will borrow the S&W a couple more times and should be GTG

I have a 686 bring the ammo and you can shoot my gun if you want to. Where are you staying? My youngest daughter lives in Round Rock so I get to play with grand kids after I get back from class!

Thanks, but I am going to stick with the 28-2 for now. I just need to get used to it, so a few more trip to the range and I should be OK

I do not have a place, one of my customers here in Houston is Homewood suites, so they are looking for me a room. I have St. Micheal's booked just in case but will probably not stay there

15 yards is the upper limit for most people with a 2" revolver, so don't sweat it.

While it's good to be accurate, it's hard to imagine a realistic case where you'd need to engage at that distance. 15 yards is target shooting, not defensive shooting. You're far more likely to engage an attacker at 1 yard than 15.

Got to shoot today and used 38sp instead of the 357s, it was a littler easier to shoot as I hit the broad side of the barn. I just ordered 500 round of wadcutter from ATGO, so maybe next month I can hit the narrow side of the barn

Are you shooting double action or single action? Single action is much easier to shoot accurately. Holler if you'd like some one on one tips.

I understand they MAY request you shoot double-action, if they notice. Depends on how busy/attentive they are at the range.
