El Gato finally nudged me over the edge. I am registerd for Instructor School next summer & waiting on a date.
Thanks to Crossfire for a lot of help too.
I have my burm built & will do training there starting immediately.
There was no visible rules about having to certified before posting here so sharing the blessing.
30ft wide, 8ft high on the left & 7 on the right.
Picture taken at about 20yd mark. We can back up a solid 200 yds for rifle shoot. Had some rain & washed a little. I do have some grass just starting to take hold.
At about 40yds.

I live not too far away sometimes. I have a home in Trinity where I go often. I’ll have to get with you sometime for training. By the way, it looks great.

I dont want to rain on your parade, but I believe DPS has to approve all ranges (??). Check into it.

Nope, not anymore. CHL instructors are the key players. Might read up on what makes a good range though.

lrb111,
I ahve read all that I can find on the DPS web site. If there is something specific you are referring to I will certainly do that. Point me to it please.

All that DPS requires is that the instructor submit an affidavit with the location of the range and affirm that the range is safe. I think you'll be good to go LT.

Are those requirements available to "not yet certified instructors" & if so do you know where?
I do thank you all for your help.

LT - here is a link to the form you need.
ftp://ftp.txdps.state.tx.us/forms/range ... _31_04.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Just get a CHL instructor that you know to look at it and sign off on it for you. Then you sign it as the range owner, and send it in, and DPS will assign you a range number.

Sorry LT, I was slow on the trigger. I see Crossfire got you fixed up. DPS likes to see an ample open space behind the target end of range. fwiw, I've seen some that were much less improved than yours, and they were certified by DPS before the new certification by chl instructor process came into being.
You should be good to go.
