What Revolver did you shoot in your CHL Instructor's Class

S&W K Frame 3 inch bbl .357 loaded with .38 the first time and a similar S&W K frame model 64 .38 with a 4 in bbl for the renewal. Both were original stock triggers and mfg in the 80's. K frame S&W's have a nice trigger to start with and are fun to shoot.

I'm taking my class this month. I never shoot revolver either and I bought a GP100 6" just for this purpose (shooting 38spl). Turns out I really like the gun. Tested myself with 20 shots from 15 yards and basically all in the 10 ring. I didn't know what to expect, but I figured if there wasn't a restriction on the firearm, then might as well get a "cheater barrel". Grouped about like my daily carry Glock 19. Of course, I shoot 1000s of rounds through the Glock and this was my first time with the GP100. Very nice gun.

8" Colt Peacekeeper 357; of course loaded with 38 special. I experienced a failure to feed with my PPQ 9mm from the 15 yard line. It was a deformed casing, my fault really for using white box Winchester but I decided that since my Walther had run it fine to that point I shouldn't make any changes.

Sargent Pittman was right behind me and noticed my slide out of battery. He's a great guy and very patient and helpful like all the other staff. It was a quick fix but if you've ever had a failure under stressful conditions you know that it certainly can amplify that stress. My next shots from 15 were noticeably "looser."

I had just told my buddy to be sure to quickly inspect his ammo as he loaded it. I tried to but the part of the case which had the deformity was on the bottom of the round an I didn't notice it. Thanks a lot Murphy.

S&W .357 I borrowed from a friend. All I had at the time was a .41 mag and ammo was expensive and they don't allow reloads, which I had plenty. the .357 had a 8-ish inch barrel. The officer that was watching our little group stepped up at the 3 yard line, looked at the pistol and my wingspan, and politely said, "Please do not get powder burns on my target."

I will say this though; when they say that a revolver which "suffers" from "push off" will be disqualified from being fired on their range, they mean it. On the day of qualification, the applicant to my right on the firing line had some small snubby revolver which when checked pushed off with simple finger pressure. He was able to use another revolver from another student, which incidentally, he shot quite well.

Point is; make sure you check your unloaded revolver for push off before your trip.

As long as the hammer is completely inaccessible, but something tells me that if they can get To enough of a hammer to cock it that they would still check it for push off. If it is incapable of setting at full cock...well, not sure how they would feel about that. They may be fine with it and they may not.
