Warm Up shots
Who allows warm up or practice shots prior to the shooting proficiency ? I recall when I took my original class, our instructor telling us it had to be cold shots, no warm up shots.

Re: Warm Up shots
If you need a warm up shot to hit the silhouette of a 300 lb man at 3 yards, you may want to get in a little more range time.

The first 20 rounds are ALL warm-up shots.
Range Rule: "The front gate lock is not an acceptable target."

Re: Warm Up shots
My thoughts exactly ! Had a friend (student) mention to me that his best friend also took a class, but they were allowed warm up shots prior to the proficiency and I thought it odd. Wasn't sure if anyone else allowed it.

Re: Warm Up shots
I don't think the CHL rules have anything to say about that, so in the mode of "what's not prohibited is allowed", sure - why not? I would, though, charge a nominal fee (Say $5-10 extra) for the extra cardboard target.

Re: Warm Up shots
My classes are often quite small so if someone has a new gun, or they're using my loaner, or if they just feel that a few practice rounds would put them at ease for the test (and it won't otherwise disrupt the normal flow of things), I don't have a problem with it. I don't charge anything extra because I usually just grab a target frame with a used B27 still on it.
People are usually satisfied with half a dozen rounds or so. And we only do it at the 3-yard line. Fills them with confidence being that accurate with their test shots.
With a larger group, I tend to stick to the program because it would slow things down for everyone else.
