Instructor Shooting Qualification

#1

Post by wally775 »

I was in Houston for the conference and it was my understanding that we would have to Qualify this year. This came from Sherrie and she said we could just qualify with
another instructor.

Is there any interest in getting a group of us together for that purpose and
maybe a hamburger or such afterward? I am in Allen and can think of a couple of ranges that we might use that are semi close. Should not take that long and be a chance to meet and greet and see some iron.

We could have the CHL- 100 ready to go and maybe turn them in at completion of the training class.
Any interest?

This would be a nice thing to do in the west Houston area too. Did they mention having to use both pistol and revolver since there is no more distinction on the license?

Yes, we still have to shoot both since students can still use either.

I'm going to set up something for instructors at PSC in the coming weeks. It'll have to be during the week.

Yes. I'll have people register so I can have the CHL-100's ready and not have to fill them out by hand. There won't be a fee for PSC Members, but the Club requires a $6 non-member fee for any events that are open to non-members.

I figure we can all shoot the course pretty quickly, then get some Mexican food close to the Club.

How many instructors in the DFW area? Want to get together some Sunday afternoon and show profieciency?
I am about 30 miles south of DFW. Outdoor range.
We could even cook hamburgers and drink some beer (after we shoot :) if you want.

Switch...

Great idea. I am in Parker County and was thinking about offering the same type of deal to anyone in the western Tarrant, Parker, Wise, Jack, Palo Pinto area. I am associated with a range that I can schedule.

Now for my question that I have not seen an answer to. Is the DPS requiring expiring instructors to seek out an non-expiring instructor in order to do the proficiency test, or can an expiring instructor qualify another expiring instructor?

I am not expiring so the only reason I am asking is to see how much demand their really is out there.

All instructors certifications are expiring. Either Dec 31, 2013 or Dec 31, 2015. Therefore, my guest is as long as the instructor is certified you should be okay. Otherwise DPS would do like the did for twelve years. Have us shoot on their range.

An instructor that is not planning on renewing can teach CHL classes until 12/31 of the year of expiration. I don't know why he could shoot for proficiency for new applicants and NOT be able to shoot fellow instructors.

Instructors in the Austin area, Travis, Williamson, Burnet - I have range access and can set up the same deal so we could all qual each other. Let me know if you're interested and we'll figure out the details.

Hey jsenner--

I'm interested in the Austin area instructor proficiency qual. I am in north Hays county. Let me know if you get any traction on this.

It will be a drive for me but I would like to keep up w/ this. Please keep me posted & I am SO glad to have my internet in the new trailer now. 6 weeks w/o it sure made it hard to even try to stay current.

I have a buddy (another expiring CHL instructor) coming to visit at my house soon. If I understand correctly, he and I can go to the range and supervise each other's qualification?
Then we just have to send the CHL 100 in to the state?
I have not sent in a CHL 100 for my qualification yet, and when I check on the status page at the DPS renewal website, it doesn't mention that the form is lacking. I wonder why?
