Instructor Renewal Requirements

#1

Post by Max1775 »

OK, I have been reading and researching and I'm still confused on what we need to do to renew this year. I am scheduled to take the NRA Pistol Instructors course on the 10/9 since my qualifications over the last 25 years no longer meet their requirements. I of course paid my money and applied online way too early in the year like many others. So what else am I missing? What is this DPS class people are speaking of? I appreciate the help!

DPS is also requiring a one day class to update the information to you. They sent out a list of the places they are holding it asking instructors to sign up for a date. So far Houston, El Paso & Georgetown. They are trying to get some in Dallas/Fort Worth but no dates yet. They also require instructors to shoot the qualification with both guns from another instructor. Seems a bad year for all this to happen.

CHL Instructor Renewal Update

This email confirms receipt of your CHL Instructor renewal application and supporting documentation.

In order to complete the renewal process, you will be required to attend a one day Instructor renewal class. We currently have the following dates/locations available:

October 2, 2013 - El Paso, Texas
October 3, 2013 – El Paso, Texas
October 21, 2013 – Houston, Texas
October 22, 2013 – Houston, Texas
October 23, 2013 – Houston, Texas
November 5, 2013 – Georgetown, Texas
November 6, 2013 – Georgetown, Texas
November 12, 2013 – Georgetown, Texas
November 13, 2013 – Georgetown, Texas

NOTE: We plan to offer classes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as well and are working to secure the dates/location. If you wish to attend in this area, please let us know and additional information will be provided once the details are finalized.

In order to reserve your placement in class, you must respond with the date and location you wish to attend. Please reply to: RSD_LRS_CHL@dps.texas.gov. Include your full name, CHL Instructor certificate number and a daytime telephone number. Once the response has been received, an email confirmation and additional information will be sent to you.

We will need to take a one day class from DPS. But I have not been informed of when the class will be.

I appreciate the replies. I have not received anything from DPS and they haven't answered any of my emails. Really frustrated with this whole ordeal. They are requiring a lot without doing an even somewhat decent job of communicating information. Very disappointing...

And perhaps the saddest part of all of this abysmally poor communication is that they have two perfectly good and fully functional venues to communicate with us en mass... their own website under "Instructor Updates" and this very forum! Instead, information (and misinformation) just trickles out, and they have to then handle (or ignore) thousands of individual emails and phone calls on issues that could be resolved by a simple "Instructor Update".

HEY DPS!! Don't forget about us out in West Texas.

How about a class in Lubbock? I'd even be satisfied with a class in Amarillo, Abilene, Midland/Odessa, Big Springs, or San Angelo.

I'm going to have to take a vacation day seeing as they are holding the class during the middle of the week. I'll have to take two or maybe three if I have to drive or fly to Georgetown, Houston, or El Paso.

Of course I have not received any correspondence from the DPS since the whoops early mail-out. Zero. They have my correct address and email.

I wonder what happens if you can't make one of their dates? After all, they are "last minute" only being 6 weeks out at the latest. What if you aren't notified of the dates when they can easily email or update the instructor's website? I'm having to come here to get information about a State issued certification. I appreciate they are probably very busy but I am too. Harvest is about to begin, all their dates are in the middle of it, and not much lead time given, especially when I haven't received any official notification.

Great! I sent an email asking about the Instructor renewal process, since I haven't gotten anything from the DPS, only from this forum (thanks to the folks keeping us informed)

I get this back

Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:

RSD_LRS_CHL@dps.texas.gov (RSD_LRS_CHL@dps.texas.gov)
The recipient's mailbox is full and can't accept messages now. Please try resending this message later, or contact the recipient directly.

This is not encouraging....

Try going through their website contact form here...

Notice, you'll have to enter unnecessary information like your drivers license number and birthdate to get it to work.

Same here. I never received an email, even though the other half did. And I submitted all documents at the same time. And, even though we are in DFW area, I am not patient enough to wait (and hope for) a class in DFW that would have to be in December. So, I replied to the one email we got with a request for a Houston class.

Hope they reply soon, as we have to shut down our business, and are required to give 3 weeks notice to MorphoTrust to do so!

Thanks! Sent same email to this address. Maybe this will work.

Concerning the classes, has anyone seen an agenda for the classes? I need to start planning on when I can leave after the class. It may determine how many days I need to take off and/or if I fly or drive.

I haven't seen anything and still have no response to the emails I have sent from the contact page... I really hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

In the past, it was all day BUT that included shooting. I suspect it will still run all day. I doubt if you'll get out before 5PM. Course, I think they just had to first class in El Paso. Maybe some in that class are on this list.
