Instructor application info

#1

Post by conn6554 »

Ok peeps,

I'm in the current class that started today. Here is the 411. Regulatory services and the DPS decided through their legal department to start following the rule of experienced handgun instructors. Some of the reasons were, one they felt it was important to have students come to class with handgun knowledge. Two they want to teach CHL instruction only.

This is what was taking so long in the process (having to go back and reevaluate). I too put an application in around August and of course it took for ever, but look here this is a state bureaucracy they are under staffed and under funded.

They did mention that everything should be caught up by April and they will continue to hold between ten to eleven classes per year.

Remember they are handling all the new applicants, assisting the current instructors, and renewals never mind all the other licensing that Reg Serv does too. So lets cut them some slack the program so far has started off great. The instructors are good folks too.

But the million dollar question is this: Are renewal instructors going to be required to be NRA/TECLEOSE/ect. certified before they can get their renewal? And the answer is ..............

I bet all but one of us will get the answer here before getting it from DPS.

That answer is not final. However if I was a current instructor I would go ahead and get it. From the tone as I understood it, highly likely.
