Has anyone stayed at the Class location hotel?
I booked reservations when I was fisrt set for the class but from what I'm seeing about breakins and such possibly looking to change.
Did anyone actually stay at this hotel and if so what was it like?

When is your class?
They have moved the July 5-9 class, and I believe the following class as well to Georgetown.

Just remember shot placement is much more important with what you shoot than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

I've yet to hear anything officially from the state about a move of the July 19-23 class. Has anyone else received anything from DPS? I'm in that class also and it's less than three weeks away now. Would be nice to know if I need to drive north or south on I-35. And for those who're staying at hotels, I'm sure y'all REALLY need to know soon.

I plan on calling first thing in the AM and will post my findings.
I called the hotel today that it is scheduled to be being held in and found out that the bar and restaurant are closed and will not be open during that class.
I'm already looking for someplace else but it would be nice to know where I actually have to be.

The 7/19 - 7/23 class has also been relocated to the Georgetown Chanber of Commerce facility. Not sure if this is the same location the ther classes had been moved to or not.

Any prospective instructors who have not yet taken their class should immediately drop to their knees and kiss the ground that the class has been moved to Georgetown.
=)
WHAT. A. RAT. TRAP.
The June 14-18 class was at the St. Michaels/HoJo's on the corner of working girl and panhandler, and it got so bad we had to organize round the clock parking lot patrols.
The class itself was great - and the location of the class was of course completely out of the control of the DPS personnel involved with the class itself - they were doing the best they could, but even they were rolling their eyes at the conditions.
I'm sure the classes in Georgetown will be much more stress-free.
On the upside, the DPS range facility is absolutely incredible. Good luck to everyone yet to take their class. We had 150 in ours, and passed all but 2.

Two didn't pass? Any idea what the problem was? Failing the written test? Or the shooting proficiency test?CarryTexas wrote: On the upside, the DPS range facility is absolutely incredible. Good luck to everyone yet to take their class. We had 150 in ours, and passed all but 2.
Range Rule: "The front gate lock is not an acceptable target."

Re: Has anyone stayed at the Class location hotel?
Two found out at the class that they had "issues" with the background investigation (I'm not counting those). I didn't hear exactly what their issues were, or if they were merely delayed, or disqualified.
One person from the 150 or so in our class didn't pass the written test, which quite frankly - should be grounds for flogging. The review was extensive, and it's essentially the same exam we already took to get our CHL in the first place.
I was in the 3rd of three range relays on Friday, and although there were several who had to take a 2nd or 3rd try in all three relays, the only one that didn't pass due to marksmanship was in our relay.
Everyone was pretty freaked out about the revolver requirement. (Myself included.) Most found out that was needless mental torture. (Myself included.) Point it that'a way. Make it go bang. You'll do fine. I nailed both the SA and then NSA first try.
The "turning targets" seemed to have the biggest mental effect on shooters. If you've never fired on turning targets before, they can be a bit unnerving.

Just as long as they're not firing back!CarryTexas wrote: The "turning targets" seemed to have the biggest mental effect on shooters. If you've never fired on turning targets before, they can be a bit unnerving.
I have a mental image of firing a round immediately after the target has turned away, and having the round cut the target into two halves...

The targets don't turn that quickly. If you fire after they have started turning, you will get a severe scolding from your DPS trooper. Severe, and loud. Loud enough that everyone in the general vicinity will know about it. The general vicinity being the 59 other people on the line at the time. Have I painted a vivid enough picture for you yet? ![Smile5 :smilelol5:](./images/smilies/smilielol5.gif)
