Places to stay

#1

Post by Bill »

I was going to book my room June 1-3 at the St Michael Hotel, but after looking at trip advisor I may look elsewhere. Yea, its nice to be right there but maybe not. Has anyone stayed there before, I am assuming all the classes are there.

I plan to stay there when this July. Any reason why you are going elsewhere?

I would suggest staying at the hotel that is hosting your class. Support them just as they are supporting you. Also, you will meet many good people that are becoming instructors just like yourself. This is where you begin to network and build friendships that will benefit you and others in the future. Most all instructors are there to help you as evidenced by this board. Good luck in your endeavors.

Only because the Hotel has such poor rating,

I agree-- I was planning on staying there as well, until I saw your post and looked up some ratings. The ratings were uniformly bad-- people described getting chased by resident crackheads and drunks, no hot water, roaches, high crime and a host of other problems. While I would like to stay with all the other instructors, I just don't feel that's it's worth putting up with all of that.

My daughter and her family live in Round Rock so I get to play with gradndkids after the classes are over for the day!

I'm scheduled for the July 19/23 week. Can you post something after your stay there and let us know how it was? Should we be armed with a 45 or something bigger?

I've seen nothing but horrible reviews for this Hotel.

I am scheduled for the July 19th-23rd 2010 class and after researching Hotels in the area I will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express (Austin Central) as it is located on the same side of the highway as St. Michael s Hotel only it is half a mile further North which makes getting to St. Micheal's easier when compared to other hotels in the area where you have to go several miles down the road and bust U turns or take some crazy other route to get there.

I've contacted them a few times to negotiate a lower rate but the best they could do is $89 a night which is down from their regular rate of $110-$150.

However, they were willing to provide a group rate for a group of 10 or more.

If there are enough of us willing to book together at this hotel we may be able to get a better rate. I've stayed here before when it was a Win Gate Inn and it was pretty nice. The link is below if anyone is interested.

Basically, they had commercials that average people became experts, excellent athletes, etc, simply because they stayed in one the previous night.

Hence why on a lot of responses on these forums, some people will tack on 'However, I did not stay in a holiday inn express last night', meaning that they are not experts in the topic, as someone who Did stay there, would be.

Confused yet? "rlol"
You can find the commercials on youtube. They're decently funny.

OK -- thanks. I thought it was some kind of gun or perhaps LEO thing (like wearing a hat). Didn't realize it referenced a TV commercial. I don't remember seeing those.
Reviewed the youtube commercials. They also have "rejected" HIE commercials. Can't describe it here, but the one with the guy who
"wasn't" an OB-GYN practically had me on the floor.

Any other news about the Holiday Inn for the class? My class is July 19th, too.
