Folks, I need some help. I have a friend of mine that wants me to conduct the proficiency test part of his online LTC class. I've never paid attention to any of that because i really don't want to get into that end of the business. I tried to access the online class outline, but it seems to have a different password than our "traditional class" part of the site. I've done some googling and understand there is a 1-2 hour range instruction required in addition to the proficiency test. Any guidelines available on the required content for that part of the online experience?
This is something I've wondered about because not only is the "range instruction" listed as part of the online proficiency test but ...
GC §411.188. HANDGUN PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT.
(a) The director by rule shall establish minimum standards for handgun proficiency and shall develop a course to teach handgun proficiency and examinations to measure handgun proficiency. The course to teach handgun proficiency is required for each person who seeks to obtain a license and must contain training sessions divided into two parts. One part of the course must be classroom instruction and the other part
must be range instruction and an actual demonstration by the applicant of the applicant’s ability to safely and proficiently use a handgun. An applicant must be able to demonstrate, at a minimum, the degree of proficiency that is required to effectively operate a handgun. The department shall distribute the standards, course requirements, and examinations on request to any qualified handgun instructor or approved online course provider seeking to administer the course or a part of the course as described by Subsection (b).
But nowhere in any material I have is the range instruction portion of the handgun proficiency requirement spelled out, including the course outline.
The only possible place would be in the slides handout from the instructor course (mine is 1/18/2016). At the end of module 2 is a section on range rules, safety, dominate eye, sight picture, etc, that could be range instruction but the leading slide says it is not part of the course but is for informational purposes only.
So what the heck is this?
