Gun Shop Closed After Central Lubbock Homicide

Source: Lubbock Co. Sheriff's Dept.

A Lubbock gun shop is closed, after an employee allegedly stabbed and killed another employee Thursday evening.

Ricky Lee Parrish, 48, of Shallowater is behind bars at the Lubbock County Jail. He's now charged with the murder of Wayne Knox, 66.

Police say a fight between the men led to the stabbing. In his mug shot, Parrish has a large bruise on his left eye.

A message from the store owners says they are temporarily closed, and they plan to re-open on Monday. Meanwhile, investigators have not released any new information about the fight that lead to Thursday's deadly stabbing, but NewsChannel 11 has learned more about the two people involved.

Parrish and Knox were fighting when Parrish allegedly pulled a pocket knife and stabbed Knox in the stomach. EMS rushed Knox to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Knox has worked in the shop for several years, and we're told he most recently lived in Wolfforth.

Witnesses inside the store tell police they saw the two men fighting, but the stabbing apparently happened in an area for "employees only". A concealed gun class was in session at the time of the stabbing, and sources tell us that Parrish was the instructor.

Detectives tell NewsChannel 11 that they won't be able to release any information about the fight until it is presented to the district attorney's office.

NewsChannel 11 will bring you those details as soon as they are available.

True, but I sure would like to know the rest of the story, and at least he didn't use a gun, in a gun shop.

Pretty strange. Will await more on "totality of the circumstances".

It seems that someone didn't take to heart the deescalation part of the course. It is one of those things that is harder to put in practice than it is to understand in class.

Yes but no matter how righteous this may turn out, Brady & liberal news media already have all they will tell.
Hope turns out better than it looks.

Being marginally acquainted with the people involved, I can tell you there is a lot more than is being reported currently. In addition to the lack of info regarding the circumstances of the event, there is a lot of personal and family history in that particular store and group of employees.

However, no matter what shakes out, this incident will be used against the CHL cause. As someone else pointed out, at least the weapon wasn't a gun.

Given that the arrestee is sporting a large bruise on his face, it might well have been justified self defense.

Now they'll want to start banning pocket knives...

A large bruise? I think the term is 'serious bodily injury'. I doubt if a bruise is going to cut it.

Getting punched in the face has been found to be a reason to fear serious bodily injury before.

Exactly. Blows to the head are "serious bodily injury", capable of causing death.

The very first CHL in Texas to use deadly force was Gordon Hale, who was being punched in the head by Kenny Tavai. Hale was arrested and charged, but no-billed by the grand jury.

Being punched in the head can justify the use of deadly force in return.

(Can justify, based on the circumstances. Getting slapped doesn't mean you are free to double-tap.)

Kevin
Gordon Hale was almost blinded. His eye socket was crushed. His attacker was 20 years younger and out-weighed him by 100 #.

The 'large bruise' does not sound like serious bodily injury to me. I could be wrong. It will be up to a jury but I would not want to be defending myself, (although I am 60, I could argue senior citizen defense. ;-) )
