Need help with CHL8 and a dumb question.
Ok, so I just completed my first class and it went great. However I am having problems with my chl8 form online. When I go to fill in the field for my instructor number it chops off the first zero no matter what pdf editor I'm using, I don't get it. Now for my really dumb question. I am uh...assuming...that my instructor number is the same as my Chl license number. Something like 060667***, I hope that this is my instructor number or am I a total knuckle head?
Thanks for your guidance,

My instructor Number is 4 zero's and then 5 digit number, all paperwork is using just the 5 digit number.
I've been doing it this way since 1996.

Must be different online. I use paper forms and always use the full number.

The electronic PDF always cuts my leading 0 too. Since they started accepting them through the web upload form I've quit worrying about it, since the web form accepts my leading 0.
Prior to that, I submitted scanned copies via e-mail along with my full instructor id.
Never an issue.
Also, yes, your instructor number and CHL number are the same I presume this to be the case for all of us, but don't know how it works if you became an instructor prior to getting a CHL. I'm not sure how or why that happens, but apparently it's not unheard of.

The only reason I can think of is that some people may have signed up as an instructor thinking it came with an automatic CHL.cbunt1 wrote:I'm not sure how or why that happens, but apparently it's not unheard of.

If you check the CHL-90 form, you'll see that it is possible to apply for both at the same time.Erick Drake wrote:The only reason I can think of is that some people may have signed up as an instructor thinking it came with an automatic CHL.cbunt1 wrote:I'm not sure how or why that happens, but apparently it's not unheard of.

Also, if you download the NEWEST CHL-8 form, you can include the leading zeros in the ID number.

Possible, yes! I am talking about those that may not have actually paid attention.sjfcontrol wrote:If you check the CHL-90 form, you'll see that it is possible to apply for both at the same time.
But I have never met anyone that went the instructor route without getting the CHL first, so my theory could be way off.

Re: Need help with CHL8 and a dumb question.
The version I downloaded last week still cuts off the leading 0 in my signature line, but accepts them in the student input fields. I figure that part matters more than my SIG line, since it's always submitted with some other identifier to tie it back to me.sjfcontrol wrote:Also, if you download the NEWEST CHL-8 form, you can include the leading zeros in the ID number.

The link I gave allows leading zeros in the instructor ID line. I tried it before posting.

Thanks for the replies. The newest form is still chopping off my leading zeros. If I understand correctly, some of you have still used this form with your "abbreviated" I'd number without issue?

Honestly, I'm just glad to have finally had my first class, it was with friends and family and it was a lot of fun.
