Out there...with wife, son over July 4th....Driving along..doing some shopping...in two door convertible. Baskets, groceries in back back with wife...son shotgun...(WITH NO seat belt on)...
A San Diego motor pulled up along side son and stares him down...No words...just the sunglass stare. Hey John...put your seatbelt on real slow...."
Head out after red light turns green and motorcycle pulls in behind and lights up... All windows open, music off, flashers TXDL and CHL in hand...handed to him as soon as he walked up. You know we have a "Click it of ticket" seat belt, etc...." Yes, we have the same in TX as well...big push right now....We just were hopping in and out of car....We obviously are not armed whatsoever and we're all CCWs., we show as a sign of courtesy here." He asked for Ins ...told him I was reaching for the paper in the glove box..he nodded.
"LEt me see your CCW (to son) he presented to LEO..."Do you want to see my wife's as well?" ...He kinda laughed and said sure why not...and handed those to him...
He just handed everything back and asked if I had a CA DL ..said no...he let up go very politely ...asking us to be careful and belt up EACH time!
No ticket....first experience with LEO since had CHL and this was with San Diego police!...how bizarre.

San Diego is like that...
During the days of "55"...I used to make commutes home to Houston for a couple of weeks while I was stationed in SD back in the 80's...
I'd come over the peak (San Diego County) on that drive and be heading back down right into San Diego with a good head of steam going...And a SD County (twice, separtate trips) would pull along side me and he'd flash me the "five finger salute" (twice)...
A friendly rolling reminder to get my head on straight before getting further into town...
The first time was a real surprise
...The second time
I was thinking..."You guys are serious about that???"
No stops, no tickets, just a well received reminder after a long time on the road...
I guess it was the tags, and deducing I was in the military, not that that is an excuse...
