Trinity Police officer recovering after weapon discharged
Maybe they need a shotgun rack?
This is the same city that had a tv show recently named Fat Cops.

The guy lost a pinky toe? The shotgun was pointed downward. Interesting way to carry a loaded shotgun. I thought it would either be in the trunk or in a rack pointed upward.
On a side note, anyone else get a chuckle out of one of the guys arrested being named Billy Bong?

That's a whole bunch of failures riding in a car. Shotgun slid, safety disengaged, trigger pulled. Probably a black shotgun.
Those three drugee's got off easy. In New York they would have owed an LEO a pinky toe.

Looks like the shotgun was not in Cruiser Ready or Cruiser Safe mode, which is SOP at most agencies for both shotguns and rifles.

All very valid points, but I'm still trying to figure out how a shotgun goes off in the back seat and shoots the driver in the foot.

Can you give more details about the modes you mentioned?

Cruiser Ready = empty chamber, trigger cycled/hammer down, action released
Cruiser Safe = empty chamber, hammer (or striker) cocked - trigger set, action locked closed

Why would the shotgun be in the backseat, ever?carlson1 wrote:More to the story than is being told.Pawpaw wrote:All very valid points, but I'm still trying to figure out how a shotgun goes off in the back seat and shoots the driver in the foot.

Maybe the officer was in too much of a hurry to serve the warrant and he didn't follow proper procedures.C-dub wrote:Excellent point. Hey mojo84,
airbornecpa nailed the response.
Both methods have the shotgun chamber empty until ready to employ to prevent a negligent discharge into someone's body parts or to prevent an unauthorized sunroof in your patrol unit .
