Pulled over driving last Saturday
I have read the numerous accounts here about being pulled over for speeding - now I have my own story. Saturday afternoon I was stopped for speeding , 80 MHP in a 70 MPH. This was the first time that I had been stopped in probably 16 or so years (so I had a clean driving record - I'm sure that also helped). I rolled the window down and kept my hands on the wheel. The Officer ask for my license and I give him the license and my CHL. He looked it over and handed it back (never ask if I was carrying - which I was), then walked back to his car with my license. For the next seven hours (Ok, it was less than a minute.....) he came back and said that because I didn't over react or blame anyone else - he was adjusting the speed down to 79 MPH and giving me a WARNING only - no ticket. I truly think the entire situation changed when he looked over my CHL. Now I certainly hope that I don't ever try and prove my theory by putting it to a test .... Seriously the LEO was extremely professional and I was extremely lucky! Don't mess with Texas.

I just don't understand. It seems that many want to be some sort of constitutional law expert when it comes to concealed carry but; OTOH, think that posted speed limits are just for grins.
A law is a law...isn't it, or do we get to pick and choose?

I tend to stay out of the legal and constitutional arguments on most subjects.
I'm not that smart. I'll leave that to the attorneys.
On the other hand, I am good at not paying attention to my speedometer (and sometimes while paying attention
) and being over the limit several times daily.
With GPS technology now and the Big Brother attitude of the Government and the insurance co's backing of increased patrols ostensibly for safety but to really raise rates on those ticketed, it would not surprise me to see an automated ticket
device sending data to a centralized system and automatically issue tickets every time you exceed the limit by even one mile an hour.
I'm glad you got a warning!
I sure won't take you to task for it.
A good stop with a good out come.

I may have blasphemed a time or two but I'm pretty sure that I didn't break any of man's laws.Bullwhip wrote:How many laws did you break today?Oldgringo wrote:I just don't understand. Traffic tickets are just a revenue stream for most government entities.
it doesn't have much to do with public safety IMO.
There needs to be SOME enforcement to penalize the excessive drivers who willfully and with arrogance drive much faster than the "pack". Giving a ticket for 10 over on a nice day in light traffic, to a driver with a good record, doesn't serve public safety, only the public coffers. Perhaps that officer was aware of that.

Re: Pulled over driving last Saturday
Nope it's a law, I knowingly break it most every day i drive at some point in my daily miles, and have for the last 30 years.. If I get stopped, I'll smile and deal with it. Not complain, not bitch. I am responsible for my actions, period, That includes the day I get a speeding ticket for.....speeding. Has not happened in about 22 years.. But it could one day.Oldgringo wrote:I just don't understand.
