In fact, I can't even remember when I was last pulled over (I decided a looong time ago I wanted to be a safe driver and not collect tickets or points.)

Anyway I had to run an errand in Kerrville this morning, on the way in (we're out in the boonies on a small ranch) I noticed a sheriff in the median running radar (or whatever) shooting apparently the west-bound traffic. No prob - we almost always only run the exact speed limit or a couple of miles over.

On the return leg home on I-10, there was a dark pickup that wizzed by me and the sheriff - he must have been going at least 10 over and I was wondering if the sheriff was going to nail the speeder. I kept glancing in my rear view mirror, and sure enough, here he comes! You go boy! Imagine my surprise when he lights me up! What in the ding-dangies is going on here  !

He asked for my DL and when I handed it to the fellow I mentioned I had a CHL issued, but not in hand yet - it's literally in the mail. He asked if I had any weapons in the truck and I said none aboard. I'm almost certain his demeanor changed when I said I had a CHL - he seemed to relax and then he asked me if I was running with a black Suburban and another vehicle. Huh? Nope. He asked where I was heading. I said home to our ranch near Harper. Then we start several minutes of ranch chitty-chatty - mostly focused on the price of hay and how much rain we've had (actually NOT had.)

It turned into a very relaxed dialog between a couple of 'fellars' that shared a common interest. Then he mentioned my license plate was difficult to read where a trailer tongue had bashed it one time (it wasn't really that banged up.) He suggested I straighten it out in case the truck ever gets stolen - the plate would be easier to read.

Oh, he never asked for vehicle registration or proof of insurance. Maybe the halo effect of the CHL - who knows. Happy ending to the story.

Sounds like a great guy! I am not sure if the CHL offers any degree of immunity, but most of the reports here at least indicate that the gentlemen/women who wear a badge are pretty cool about the whole concealed carry issue.

I'll bet his lights slowed traffic down for awhile. It is a good tactic to let those lights flash if the traffic is a bit out of hand.

The CHL may not offer immunity, but presenting it along with a respectful attitude sure could not hurt anything.

Registration doesn't really get asked for much here in TX. Nice stop!
