Darn shirt uncovered gun today
The wife and I went to a local resturant for lunch. As I walked in I noticed 3 police officers eating their lunch in the corner. After placing our order and grabbing our drinks, we headed to find a table. We sat down just a couple of tables away from the officers.
As I sat down I reached down to adjust my shirt and then realized that my shirt had complety ridden up and over my IWB and that it was completly exposed . I casually pulled my shirt back down to cover it up. I glanced over at the officers and none of the 3 noticed (They were in their own little world, bad habit for them). As I got up to get something that my wife forgot, I turned around behind me and a guy was sitting at another table talking to his friend. He looked at me and at my waist line, and nooded then went back to talking with his friend.
So I know that guy saw. Maybe he carrys? I dunno, but I'm for glad sure he didn't stand up and scream "OFFICERS, THIS MAN HAS A GUN!"

Maybe he thought you were just another officer, just a plain clothes.
How do you explain a dog named Sauer without first telling the story of a Puppy named Sig?

Wow! That would be kind of scary (for you) I guess that would be unintentional on your part.
I wonder if an officer saw that would he walk over to do an ID check outside
and a friendly reminder or ???? Guess it depends on the officer.

Re: Darn shirt uncovered gun today
but wait ... I digress to one of the twenty thousand hypothetical situations outlined on this forum. Didn't someone scream in terror, shouting that you had a gun? Which in turn became an international incident involving 3 police departments and the national guard.
Many of us have been where you were today, glad everything worked out for the best.

I wonder if any members who are officers would tell us what they would do in that situation?AEA wrote: Hopefully the officer would actually know the law!

You are lucky that you and your wife, along with a few other customers, weren't shot dead on the spot.magillapd wrote:The wife and I went to a local resturant for lunch. Sheeple for the most part.
Likely if anyone noticed they fell in two groups.. those who thought you were a LEO and those that thought you were carrying leagally with a CHL.
the First went back to eatting, the second, well myself and most I know (to include off duty LEO's I hand with) would have likely noticed the gun, the lack of a badge nect to it and glided by and said something like,, "Afternoon, your 2nd amendment is showing"

your reaction/action
calmly re-covering as if you are supposed to be armed- confidence
makes a difference
If you looked all nervous like- oh no someone might see the gun I'm not supposed to have .... you might get the screaming MWAG!!! people
sounds like you handled it well ... now buy extra TALL shirts ... (or wear your pants higher lol ... jus kiddin')

I havent got into this situation yet. Hopefully I wont but it is possible. Hopefully There wont be an issue. I am pretty self conscious about checking my self everytime I get out of the car or sit down. I told my wife her job is to check me out lol . She is getting good at it to.

glad you made it out of that one,
one of the things im having to adjust to, i wear it inside my riht hip if im not ankle holstered.. when i go grocery shopping i always reach uo with my right hand, usually exposing the grip.. im trying to start unconsciously using my left hand instead of my right

You did good to not make a big deal out of it. I think that is 99% of the way to not getting folks upset.
I've stopped worrying about any accidental exposure, don't get me wrong, I make sure I'm covered, but not habitually.
I buy Tall shirts when I have the choice, just to have that extra length...

Re: Darn shirt uncovered gun today
This morning in church, I was in the audience instead of on stage (for once), and I realized that my shirt had ridden up a bit while I was sitting on the end of a row, my gun side on the aisle. I discreetly reached down and back to adjust my shirt tails, and realized that my holster was just a tad less than half exposed. I pulled the shirt down, and I am pretty certain nobody noticed it.

Re: Darn shirt uncovered gun today
All of my shirts are tall. It caught on the back of the chair as I was sitting down and even at that it was only for a few seconds it was exposed. I'm glad that I rehearsed in my head many times how to act if I ever accidently exposed the gun/holster. It paid off (not paronid like my wife tells me, just preparedness)
To be honest, the thing that stuck out the most the whole time in there was the 3 officers not paying attention to anything in the resturant. They were so engrossed in their conversations, they barley looked up once (in there for 45 mins)
I'm a 911 dispatcher and I expect more from my brothers in blue (or is that brother's in law) not really sure on that, but I digress.
Like was mentioned before, freaking out and acting all nervous would have surley spelled trouble.
