I guess enough time has passed...

A while back, I make a traffic stop in the middle of the night. I can tell the driver is intoxicated, and he's also being verbally combative. I have a second officer swing by before I get him out for the SFST battery. My partner that shows up is 6' 7", and used to do tough guy competitions....he's laid back but huge. I'm about a foot shorter than he is. Anyway, so I ask this guy to step out and he doesn't. He puts his vehicle in drive, and speeds off.

My partner and I initiate a vehicle pursuit. I run back to what I think is my car, jump in and haul out. Not many other cars are on the road, but I still don't feel it is safe to match his speed, and he had a good jump on me. After the first few blocks, I'm driving and giving info on the radio, and I realize I'm pretty much dangling from the steering wheel. I look further and my rear is on the front 3" of the driver's seat, and I'm amazed that I can reach the pedals.

By now most of you realilzed what I did....

I mean...all the cars look the same...what....

On the video in my car, you can hear my partner get in, cuss, stop, adjust the seat back, and take off again. Thought you guys would enjoy a story that inspires confidence in your local LE. :clapping:

Hey, it was an honest mistake.

Story would have been a lot funnier if he'd been a motorcycle cop. I suggest changing it to that when telling it in the future. Maybe even better if he'd been a mounted police officer. "rlol"

Hopefully the jerk-perp is behind bars too.

GigAg04, that was pretty good. I don't think I ever saw it happen on a traffic stop, but I know it happened quite a few times when we were eating. One of the favorite practical jokes in San Antonio was to hide the other officer's car. The whole fleet was keyed alike (by year model) so everyone had the key to everyone else' car. Three of four people eating together and it was not unusual for the last one to the restaurant to move one of the other car's before he went inside. Usually, the car was just moved around the building or something, but I know a couple times it was driven back to the station for them.

The worst part was after I called it off, I tried to call the guy to discreetly trade cars...

His phone starts ringing in the car so he left it. Great. Now I have to punk myself out on the radio and say "hey do you wanna meet and trade cars back..." This is after the whole dept was listening to our chase on the radio.

That sounds like what happens whenever my wife borrows my car. She NEVER remembers to put the seat all the way back. She uses it all the way forward. I can't even get into the car that way. It always leaves me muttering under my breath about dadgum mutter mutter....

Yup, ^^^^^^^^^^
All that... and MIRRORS!

I am 6'-5", Mrs. Flintknapper is 5'-7". I get in my vehicle after she has used it and all I can see is my Adams Apple in the rear-view and the rear tires in the side-views. :totap:
