:tiphat:
Riding the Wing, two up...spent the day in Luckenbach, heading home...traveling East outta' Marble Falls on the 1431, passing the Auto Salvage yard on my South; traffic was light, no vehicles in front of us. (( You know the area. ))
I did notice two patrol cars heading West, back towards town, end of the day.. 5:30-6:00 pm.
Speed limit signs posted are 50 MPH.
As I was watching two pick up trucks, pulling off the side of the road ... ( Deer problems ? ) ..I glanced back and sure as heck.. PD car had whipped a U-turn and lite me up ! ( I hate that feeling ! )
Officer Walden ..was very pleasant and professional with his duties. Stating why he stopped me (Speed)...asked for my license and other documents...AS I WAS, removing my CHL card, he remarked, no need to remove it.
What's that little device they're using now, to punch in your info ? Pretty cool !
I wanted to know what side arm he was carrying, but didn't ask. He was wearing four (4) horizonal magazine holsters, AND...his cross draw taser ! Neat looking gun belt & outfit.
... Officer Walden, thanks for the information, the road conditions, numerous
traffic accidents there, and my speed over the limit !
Like I said ... I'll take YOUR WARNING, SERIOUSLY !!
THANK YOU SIR.... appreciate your being here !

Mac

Darn, I had my scanner off at that time, so I missed hearing the encounter.
I recall hearing earlier about a few pieces of lumber in a road somewhere, probably fell off a truck or trailer. Not sure if that was on 1431 though, as I wasn't really listening, just had it on while doing other things.
I got a kick out of an officer in Marble Falls, when I was at Bowles Muffler shop and gun store last year, trying very, very, very hard to see if I was carrying without looking obvious. Everyone I encountered in Marble Falls/Burnet area are nice.

Cross draw holster? Guess he has not been to street survival 101 yet.

It sounds like an excellent position to me.

Accessed easily by either hand, not on strong side to be confused with duty weapon, draw is NOT as easily pinned/stalled as some profess, easier to access when seated and from many disadvantaged positions, doesn't intefere with a seatbelt (as much).

But.....I am ever the student, so I am interested to hear what "Street Survival 101" teaches about this.

I don't know what street survival says, but Taser used to recommend carrying their weapon this way. The thought then was that it was easier for you to distinguish between it and the real pistol in a hurry.

After the California (BART I think) shooting, this is being rethought. Some people think the dominant hand under stress went to the pistol since he had so much more training in that draw, even though his mind was thinking draw the Taser. There is something to this, IMO, but the only other option would have me drawing the Taser with my weak hand, which may make me miss when I really need it. And having to switch hands for the drive stun techniques would really be a problem.
