Sorry for the bad photo's. I am not a photographer. Maybe I will try some more later. Trooper assist in a drug warrant and gets hit with a 9mm from the bad guy. I took some photos on top of an old patch (and a Narcotics patch) because the badge is one of the old badges.

WOW. Just a half an inch or so lower and... yikes

One lucky trooper I hope he had body armor on under his uniform too. Back in the days when advertising tobacco products and their accessories was still commonplace I saw an ad for a Zippo lighter that a GI in Vietnam was carrying when he was shot. The lighter stopped a 7.62 bullet fired from some ComBloc rifle and still worked! The soldier sent the lighter to Zippo they replaced it and sent his old one back too. Those were the days of real customer service.

I believe you could blame the concept of the badge and the significance of its placement on Sir Robert Peel. I am not sure but I seem to recall hearing he was the first to come up with that idea. While most of us do not realize it, there is some significance to why it is placed there also, possibly an indication of the knowledge of sacrifice the job takes. I am nowhere near as smart as Sir Peel, so I can only guess his reasons. That was told to me in the 70's and could be real or could be someone else imparting their take to it.

Oh, come on. Without knowing the distance of the shot, the density of the badge and any other factors except he was shot, it's impossible to say anything about the penetrating power of the 9mm.

I'd say the important thing here is that it (apparently) DIDN'T penetrate the trooper.

There is nothing wrong with the penetration of the 9mm. This bullet came through a door and wall before hitting the Trooper. I would say it penetrated real well.

Good thing for the door and the wall in the way... It might have been a completely different story otherwise. Glad to see he's ok.

That third badge stopped the bullet, but I guarantee you that cop would have a sore chest for a while - which is not a bad outcome all things considered.

I'm still trying to find the story about the Trooper.

I'm not implying it isn't factual.

However, a North Las Vegas officer who made the same claim has been arrested for filing a false report.

He had fabricated the entire event and punched the hole with a screwdriver.

I'm reminded of a scene from Support Your Local Sheriff. The mayor hands James Garner a badge dented from a bullet.
