Friday evening we (me, my wife and four kids) were headed to a church event. As we were going thru an intersection a driver who was stopped in a left turn lane got impatient and started to pull into our lane of traffic. His bumper collided with the driver's side of our van scrapping / denting it from behind the front wheel to the back wheel. As I pulled over to check the damage and trade insurance info he took off. Unfortunately we couldn't get a license tag number.
We live in a subdivision that is patrolled by Harris County Precint 5 constables so we called them instead of HPD. The officer who arrived asked for my ID & insurance. I handed her my cards and CHL. She took a quick look at the CHL, handed it back and didn't say a word about it during the entire time she took the accident report. She handled everything very professionally and got us on our way. I hope that all of my LEO contacts are this painless.
I've got to add that the Precint 5 neighborhood patrol is top notch. Quick to respond, top notch folks. I'm always glad when I see them cruising thru the neighborhood.

I really hate to hear about hit and runs. I'm glad you and the family are okay.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

so what would happen if you shot at their tire so it would deflate?
Re: First Encounter Since Receiving CHL
More than likely you would be arrested for, at minimum, negligent discharge of a firearm. Leaving the scene is NOT a reason you would even pull your gun.ericlw wrote:so what would happen if you shot at their tire so it would deflate?

That thought never even entered my mind. Seems like a way to escalate the situation and place my family at risk.ericlw wrote:so what would happen if you shot at their tire so it would deflate?
