It was weird...
Yesterday (Saturday) I went to get a haircut, and while I was in the chair a McKinney police officer came in, also to get a haircut.
I should mention that I just got my plastic earlier this week, and this was my first time carrying in the barber shop. I had my Springfield XD(m) in a Supertuck IWB holster underneath a flannel shirt.
Nothing happened, but boy was I nervous...I just knew that I was "printing" and that he was going to draw and order me onto the ground! It didn't happen of course. I got my haircut, paid the barber, even laughed when the barber joked with the cop about, "Don't tase me, bro!"
Not really a contact, but I still thought it was funny afterwards...it's gradually becoming more comfortable carrying every day. I'm starting to relax a little!

Re: It was weird...
One of my first times out was to Fuddruckers with the family.
I didn't have a good holster yet and was using a fanny pack
to carry my .45 and had an LCP in my front pocket.
While standing in line I felt the presence of someone behind me.
I turned to find that is was 4 Harris County Sheriffs Deputies.
As luck would have it, they ended up sitting next to our table.
I kept feeling like I was being watched by them the whole time.
My wife and kids said I looked like a ghost and reminded me
that I wasn't doing anything wrong.
It does get better with time.![Wink ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

Read for a laugh ^
Barber chairs are one of the few seats that make me nervous when carrying IWB, due to the angle / gap in the back.

And though open carry is covered in a hundred other threads here (I've read about a hundred since joining a few days ago)longtooth wrote:4 rules guys.

The law does state as I understand it..
It is unfortunate that we are left with a LEO’s initial decision on the situation as to “intentional” “Knowingly” and “recklessly”...but it is what it is.It is unlawful to intentionally, knowingly or recklessly carry on or about one’s person a handgun in a motor vehicle if the handgun is in plain view.
Confidence and what longtooth posted above is what allows you to carry every day in all (legal) situations and go otherwise unnoticed... .. Worked for me in Alaska, Oregon, Washington and will work for me now in Texas.

Re: It was weird...
I encountered my first real 30.06 sign today. My wife had to have outpatient surgery to have her gall bladder removed, and as we were entering Presbyterian Hospital in Plano I spotted a stylish 30.06 sign. The colors were white and blue with a "gun-busters" sign, and the font was too small and italics, but the text was legit. I left my pistol in the truck and felt naked the whole time I was there. Thankfully no hospital ninjas attacked.... ![Wink ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

In that case, it wasn't a real 30.06 sign.

There is an old addage that says 'Close enough for government work'. What that translates to if a CHL get's caught going past a 30.06 sign is 'CLOSE ENOUGH FOR the GOVENRMENT judge to make you do time on the WORK farm.'MojoTexas wrote:Yeah I am not willing to test the theory.frazzled wrote:Your statement has not been tested in the courts.bdickens wrote:MojoTexas wrote:I encountered my first real 30.06 sign today. Yes. even if you win, you lose. You've already gone to jail and, more importantly, paid lots of legal fees. Thats just to get it negotiated or kicked out. If a prosecutor wants to make a statement you're in the Not Fun Land.Keith B wrote:There is an old addage that says 'Close enough for government work'. I am.
No wonder we've lost so many of our rights.
I don't understand what's so hard to understand about the sign has to say exactly this, be in English and Spanish, in block letters at least 1" high that contrast with the background and it has to be posted conspicuously. Am I just dense?
