I was driving home to Austin from Forestburg after visiting a friend of mine for Halloween. Crested a hill doing about 80 and the trooper was waiting on the other side. I got lit up immediately and pulled to the side of the highway. Turned on the dome light, rolled down windows, killed the engine, and got my DL, CHL and insurance ready. The trooper approached the car from passenger side and said he clocked me doing 80 in a 70. I handed him my IDs and insurance, and told him I had a CHL. He asked if I had my weapon with me, I answered yes. He then asked me where it was located and I told him. He said OK and handed back the CHL then asked where I was headed and that he would have to give me a ticket. All in All a very short, professional stop. While I'm not pleased about the ticket, I certainly deserved it. Traffic school here I come.

Sometimes you just feel the "need for speed." Sounds like the trooper did his job well and you need some "retraining."

That just about mirrored a stop I had entering San Patricio County just before Mathis on July 4. Except the Trooper didn't even ask about my weapon AT ALL. I handed him my ID's, he asked where I was headed, said 80 in a 70 was too fast and he had to give me a ticket and that's it. Not a peep about my CHL, didn't ask about where my weapon was... nada. Found it kind of odd. Maybe I have one of those innocent faces... yeah, right.

Finished online traffic school yesterday actually. What a bore.

My hunting buddy and I were headed back to DFW from Childress and picked up the trooper with a radar dector on 287 just south of Decatur on Sunday afternoon. It saved my buddy "another" quail hunting trip speeding ticket!

I did have a simalar encounter with a game warden on Saturday. When he asked for ID and hunting license, I handed over DL, CHL and hunting license. He looked at CHL and handed it back with no comment, looked at DL and handed it back, and studied hunting license before moving on to another hunting party where a guy admitted to shooting a deer, but did not have any tags removed from his license. That is going to be an expensive deer!

I drive this route to New Mexico several times a year. The local PD's have a field day with tourists or any one who speeds for that matter. They cut no slack. The Valentine has paid for itself a dozen times over.

From Ft.Worth all the way to Wichita Falls, Hwy. 287 has always been well enforced by DPS. I know every inch of that road, I've traveled it so much. Decatur to Bowie is where they seem to be the most heavily concentrated.

Yes sir.
I see em most around all the little towns between Wichita Falls and Amarillo.

I didn't realize their popularity extended past Wichita Falls, but it makes sense. I lived for a long time outside of Henrietta, and traveled between there and Ft.Worth a good deal, and I became "friends" with several DPS Troopers.
