First stop with CHL

It's been so long since I have been stopped, I don't even remember when it happened last.

Anyway, I was in Plano leaving work around 15th and 75. I get to the intersection, knowing an officer was directly behind me. I make a deliberate complete stop, signal right, observe traffic then continue right. All of a sudden, the red and blues are flashing in my rearview.

I immediately signal and turn in to a very convenient spot. Light to pullover was about 10 seconds. Windows down, keys on the dash, hand out the window with my id and right hand on the wheel at 12 o'clock. When the officer came to the window, I was informed I failed to stop at a designated stopping point and made a wide right turn. I informed the officer I was armed on the right hip. The officer acknowledged. I also had an expired insurance card in the car. The officer went back to police vehicle and about 7 minutes later came back with a verbal warning for stopping my vehicle in the cross-walk and making a wide right turn. I received a fix-it ticket for insurance.

All-in-all, a perfect stop ( minus the insurance ticket ). The officer was super professional and courteous. I couldn't have asked for anything better.

In fact, when I go and prove my insurance, I will see about leaving a comment somehow. Plano has always impressed me, with my interaction of the police anyway.

Wow, unless you went into the crosswalk with pedestrians present, that's a little petty for a stop. If you did the ole "rolling stop" he might have pitted you out on the wide turn! "rlol"

When a neighbor moved in a few months ago, she said <quote>Plano sure has a lot of policemen. <endquote>
There have been a few times when I was glad to see a policeman. The first time was when I worked till 3:AM,
and in the short drive from work to home, I drove past three officers and each had somebody pulled over.
The most recent incident was about a week ago. Driving down Jupiter Road from Parker Road to 14th street,
I passed five policemen. And again, each policeman had somebody pulled over. --- I am never happy
to be pulled over, but my last incident was polite and cordial. --- The Plano policemen that I have met have
always been polite and cordial.

What makes a cop pull someone over for a fishing expedition? Is it the car? The appearance of the person/people in the car? The number of people in the car? The time of day/night? The part of town you're in? A combination of two or more of those things? I've never been pulled over for what could be called a fishing expedition. If nothing else, I've been driving more carefully to specifically avoid having the cops notice me since applying for my CHL.

I'd like to hear from folks that have been fished like this regarding an honest assessment of why they think the cops pulled you over, and consider all of the criteria above.
