I deserved the ticket!

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

I deserved the ticket!

#1

Post by tboesche »

Yesterday, coming to work, Fast lane on I 30 heading west. I see the cruiser on the side of the road. Officer steps out  , points at me and yells pull over, and points to the side of the road. I pull it over get out my info and wait. The officer driving eventually pulls his unit up behind me and the LEO I saw point gets out of the passenger side and walks up. Very courteous, says they clocked me at 74 in a 60. Probably right.

I hand him the info, he looks at it and asks if I have my weapon, I replied that it is in the center console. He hands everything back and stands right there and writes the ticket. I thought this was kinda weird. He did not run my license. I assume that because of the CHL he assumed he would find nothing.

Hands me the ticket and thanks me for being coureous and says to have a nice day.

Other than getting a ticket that I absolutely deserved, it was a good encounter.

I have been stopped by an Arlington officer that was on foot before, and usually if they are running STEP(Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) or another form of organized traffic enforcement, they don't run DL checks. They just stop, cite and are back on the on-ramp waiting for the next one. It's almost a daily occurrence at I-20/Kelly Elliott. It's a stretch of 20 that has experienced a lot of fatalities.

Ticket, or "Driving Award?"

"Driving TAX".

Remember when it used to be 20-30 bux?

I don't think there is any ticket less than 100 now and goes North from there rapidly!

And don't think they're kidding about the fines doubling in construction zones when workers are present. The wife was stopped for 83 in a 60 along I-45 a few years back in a construction zone with workers present. I think she said she was the last car in a group of 4-5. The fine was almost $600 and deferred adjudication was not an option. She switched her lead foot for an aluminum one since then.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

In virginia anything over 80 is reckless driving now which results in a week in jail for second offenders, some first time offenders are even getting sent to jail over it.

I don't have a problem with this. The solution is simple - leave earlier and/or call ahead and tell 'em that you're gonna' be a little late.

It would be great if they gave those kind of penalties for driving without a license or without insurance. Or make it prima facie reckless driving to drive without insurance. It's much worse than going 80 on a open stretch of I-81 or I-95 south of Richmond. Or I-10 between Kerrville and Fort Hancock.

Ok, I left myself open for that one.:

I was in my old Contour SVT going "slightly" over the speed limit, he stepped out from a gas station parking lot wearing a reflective vest and pointed at me. I have to say, some of those guys are gutsy to walk in a busy access road in order to conduct traffic enforcement.

It happened to me many years ago once that a police officer on foot pointed and with a somewhat angry face was trying to say something to me. I, of course, was going quite fast and didn't know what he wanted from me, so I kept on driving. I never realized it until now, but maybe he was trying to get me to stop so he could give me a ticket.

I was just thinking to myself, what does this guy think he's doing, shouting and gesturing at me while I'm zooming past him at 50+ MPH???
