Re: Starting Police Academy
Just wanted to pop in and say congrats on your decision to become a LEO. Let me know when you've got a day to fix that glock. I still need to do my AR.

Can you give an example of how the wording is changed up?sbrawley wrote:That's how TCOLE works. The jailer tests are the same way. We have done a lot of PT in the past week so I am still pretty sore from all the hands on stuff and running 4 miles a day. Looking into getting my old job back for financial reasons and insurance purposes. I still give a 110 percent daily, but if I can go back to work where I was I am gone. The academy Dallas provides and all the instructors are awesome. I would easily recommend it to anyone. My choice to leave, or look into leaving rather, is for personal needs not a reflection of the department or staff. Not really sure what to up date on. Anyone can ask me any questions they want. That will be a lot easier to be honest. We haven't gone to the range yet. Everything has been hands on tactics and classroom stuff. Currently on penal code. I am a horrible test taker. Case in point I studied all last week, the weekend, and woke up 2 hours early today and still only made a 76. When reviewing with another recruit I was knocking it out quick. I get tripped up in some of the wording and go back and change answers sometimes. Which may help or hurt depending the question. We are in or academy uniforms now. bought my Bates boots for around 130.00 last week at Academy in case I need to take them back. Shining boots is no bueno. Anyone got anything they want to ask?
Reason I ask is because I will take the TCOLE test in August.
The study questions in my classes are pretty straightforward. Its more like you either know the answer or not.
I want to know how to better prepare myself.

What Glock lol. Sold all my Glocks to either pay bills or fund another purchase. Thanks though. My Gen4 29 clearly was my first true love because no pistol has felt like her. I am looking into the GSSF to see if that may be worth it. Thanks to DocV I am short a barrel and optics or irons and I will have a complete gun. Unless I want I change the free float to a rail system.
Thanks again DocV. For those who don't know him, if more people in the world were like him I wouldn't even feel the need to carry a gun. For protection anyways lol.

I really can't. We don't get out test back unless we fail it. Even then it is only for 30 minutes.
Try this

Someone put a bunch of flashcards together. Cool thing is they read themselves off to you. So if your in the car 3
Hours a day like me I can listen to them. I am only on my second half of penal code.

Re: Starting Police Academy
Are you not getting insurance through DPD? I know their academy is twice as long as TCOLE requires but I hate to see you drop out unless it's unavoidable. I've told others wanting to go to the police academy to be prepared to make a lot of sacrifises. It's a huge inconvenience to go to class everyday and if you are not hired like I was it's very expensive. Just take it 1 day at a time and i promise graduation day is just 20mins away.

Re: Starting Police Academy
Let me know if you need a great TCOLE review. I would have to scan and email it to you but the review I have was 95% word for word. I made a 93 on the test. Let me know if you want it and PM me a email address.garodrig1 wrote:Can you give an example of how the wording is changed up?sbrawley wrote:That's how TCOLE works. The jailer tests are the same way. I havent forgotten you guys. Just busy as a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. I havent had a computer and this site is ridiculous on my phone. I have a big test tomorrow. I am over 10 weeks in. I have sustained injuries and some personal obstacles, but I am still in the fight. I will give a more lengthy reply later.

Re: Starting Police Academy
Thanks for patience on responses. I haven't had a computer usually my wife has her laptop. When I am home I never usually get on the computer I am usually on my phone and this site usually isn't very fast on my phone.
I am in week I think 12 or 13? I have survived all academic test but one. I almost failed the last one with a 70 which is crappy considering I thought I made an 80 or more. The actual TECOLE test are way easier than the ones they give us. I know because I have taken several practice TECOLE test. What is even more crap is they have found a lot of their test questions could have answers that really go either way. So? They don't let us review unless we fail and don't care if we didn't know something etc. Anyways. Everything has been pretty fun in the academy. I swear though my personal life consistently has SOMETHING going on. I don't mean the normal pay bills, kids, traffic, etc.
A month ago I got hit and ran. I actually had to chase the guy around a parking lot until he almost hit 3 people then I stopped. Pursued at an angel to catch his plate, which I did. How is that for tacticool driving? I was when I saw him take off. To add insult to injury it happened on a Friday after a long week. I was walking out to my car telling my wife (we had some words a few days in a row) we would have a great weekend and next week is a whole new week. Anyways so waited for a patrol car, they took the report, I went home.
It has a been over a month now and so far State Farm has done NOT ONE THING for me but tell me they went out and saw his car had no damage. I said well after a month I wouldn't expect it would. So I kindly asked them how they have gone out and found his car and taken pictures when they havent even done that for me? Plus if he is clear how does his vehicle match the exact plate I gave police because I barely got a plate not a make or model. So I am left with the damages. After which I am dropping state farm who carries two life insurance polices, rental, and 2 cars. No word from a detective yet.
So range week was this week. Still not a fan of the Sig 226. I am shooting a 96/100 which I felt was crappy until I saw the rest of the group. My personal goal was to get 3 inch groups at match. Try 10 inch or more lol. We did live action targets and I was blowing and going :) my line instructor said do a head shot. So not only did I do one center mass I did 2 shots touching center of the white pop up plate from holster. So I shoot better under pressure apparently lol.
Since this is a CCW forum I will say that whole mindset and training has actually screwed me. Why? I train to shoot till empty for a reload OR combat reload/malfunction checks. So when I am reloading on empty before being instructed to do so OR shooting 6-7 rounds on a still target out of the hostler. It was funny at first for them. However, the second time they asked me if I knew how to count. I apologized and explained why I had the "bad habbit" I have a couple of bone heads in the Academy and a few people never having shot. So I forgot they werent mind readers. After I kindly explained I was sorry and wouldn't let it happen again it was cool. I didn't want to come off as being an idiot or disregarding things. I made sure I explained myself in a "I dont know everything" way. I was treading lightly. Whatever I am doing seems to be going well out on the range because the Sergeant walked over to me and jacked with me smiling the whole time then we talk about his new Glock 42.
Week before that was traffic. Not as hard as penal code, but a lot of little testable stuff I need to stay up on. Anyways I am still in the fight. I have sustained minor injuries, lost a crap ton of weight, and one majoy injury on my right arm that is killing me as I type this. Its either a torn rotator cuff, torn bicep, or I have no idea.
Newest thing is they are no longer doing pushups during formation which has been a standard for years and punishments no longer will be delivered via physical exercise. So someone complained and got their wishes somehow. Which is pathetic in the majority opinion.
Anyone have any direct questions?
