LEO tearing up a tick cause of CHL

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

Something isn't Kosher...I think following-up, like you said, is the correct thing to do. I like Keith's idea.

OP, If you're concerned, call the court and make sure you don't have a ticket. Give it a week. Tickets can be cancelled after the fact relatively easy. For a handwritten ticket (i use both handwritten or my e-ticket writer) simply change the citation box to a warning box. It's not tampering since it hasn't been filed, it's still the officer's discretion.

For an e-ticket I can go back in and void it.

Nothing seems fishy to me at all. I've cancelled tickets after the fact for a few different reasons.

wife just got popped going 10 mph over the limit. She was 100% in the wrong, but just didn't know the limit changed.

5 minutes after she got the ticket her cell phone rang. It was the officer telling her to tear up her ticket because he was going to tear up his because she's a college student and because she has a chl and you have to be a pretty upstanding citizen to even get a chl... almost his words verbatum from my wife.

pretty cool... :)
Pretty standard to ask phone number work info now, times are changing. Records and the court like that info, officer doesn't need it.

If I get asked for my SS #. As I always tell most anyone that asked for it "Sorry, but I don't remeber it" You are not required to carry your SS Number.

So? If I have your legal name and city (obtained by just remembering it from the DL during a traffic stop), then I can easily get your address and home number from the Internet. Try http://www.whitepages.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, http://www.anywho.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, etc.

:confused5 I don't see that gender matters. What about a female cop having my info? That dog don't hunt with me. You're insinuating that a male cop having a female's personal info is a problem. Well, I contend if someone wants it, they can get it, and there are a TON of ways to do it easily, whether you are a cop or not.

...I'm not insinuating, I'm saying it out plain...SOME cops get a gal's phone number and address, it's a BIG problem...I personally saw a guy about 6 months junior to me go down for 7 rapes...know of another who raped a gal...and she was afraid to turn him in...he was on the force till he retired...it happens...and using the light bar and ticket book to line up the weekend's date(s) has always been done...by SOME cops...so I'd have gotten really upset if a cop called my wife at home or on her cell to tell her he'd dismissed a ticket...he's either real nice but stupid, laying himself open to all kinds of accusations, or he's hustlin'...it just ISN'T the way to handle it...a cop should be a lot more professional and businesslike than that...

Thanks for spellin' it out, Speedo. That's exactly what I was suggesting.

As the brigade CSM told me up at Ft. Bragg several years ago, "...not all soldiers are good soldiers..." as we were discussing vandalism on a major post construction project. The CSM's observation applies to all walks of life.

Yeah, it can happen with a bad cop, but if he wants to get her information he has a lot of other ways to do it, even without stopping her. Just run her license plate through the system and get an address and then use any one of a plethora of methods available to get a phone number.

Bottom line, we need to be able to trust our LEO's. And while there are bad apples, the vast majority are not. In this case, we may never know. However, if there were no follow-up calls or attempts to contact, then he probably just had a change of heart and was being nice.

...statistically, you're probably right on this guy...but the two I posted and two others I personally know all put on the big smiley-face...and were twisted like a Slinky after a train wreck...and from a trainer's point of view, this guy left himself wide open for any accusations she wanted to make...just not wise...then or now...HOW he might get her information has never been a problem...what his motivation was...only he knows...

Thank you sir. Well said. Every time I get to speak to new class of rookies, or run into one on the street, I remind them that the word to live by is integrity. I'm sure they grow weary of my advice. :yawn
