That needs to be put on a sign every few inches along side the George Bush Turnpike. Every single day on my way to work there's someone driving 10 under the speed limit in the left lane.gemini wrote:as long as you're driving slower than other traffic, AND you're in the right hand lane , there should not be any

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.

FWIW our motors guys have tested laser jammers, shifters, closing devices, hyperdrive, and photon torpedoes.

Re: First time pulled over (Speeding) while carrying, Plano,
Am I in the minority of those who simply use cruise control, set it at the limit and not speed?
Many moons ago, I read of how fast speeding will get you to your destination and it was, if I remember correctly, something along the lines of just a few minutes sooner than you'd get there driving the speed limit. This was based on distance to destination and factoring speeding well over the limit vs. the same distance and going the speed limit. That's probably not the best explanation, but presumably you get my gist...
It seemed to me that avoiding all the stress associated with speeding was clear enough for me - just don't speed.
I'm no goody-two shoes, but in a cost/benefit analysis - You ain't getting wherever you're heading fast enough to make it worthwhile.
Plus, with driving the limit you save gas and if you get into a collision you'll likely have a greater chance of survival.
Or, is there a kind of furtive glee associated with getting away with minor law breaking (ah, assuming you DO get away with speeding) that motivates speeders more than actually getting there a tad sooner, where ever there is?

Re: First time pulled over (Speeding) while carrying, Plano,
If the speed limit is 70 MPH and you need to drive some 240 miles, that is 3 Hrs and 26 mins. If you decided to do 80 MPH, that is exactly 3hrs. You saved 26 minutes. And of course, any distance less than 30 miles, saving are not worth it, may you save 2-3 mins.

I think I read the same study and instead of getting "don't speed" out of it, I got "if you're going to speed, make it worth it". ![Jester :biggrinjester:](./images/smilies/biggrinjester.gif)

Average traffic stop is 12 minutes FWIW.
Odds are pretty slim of getting tagged on an interstate going only 80.

That's right where I keep my cruise (80). And yep, odds are definitely low on getting tagged on the interstate.

Re: First time pulled over (Speeding) while carrying, Plano,
This past weekend I was driving south on Highway 75 towards McKinney, and DPS was sitting over a hill running radar. I had my cruise control set at 65 (the speed limit on that stretch) but the car behind me got pulled over. It's a good feeling seeing the lights going on and know that you're NOT the one getting pulled over.gigag04 wrote:Average traffic stop is 12 minutes FWIW.

Re: First time pulled over (Speeding) while carrying, Plano,
I haven't been pulled over in 13 years. If one did try to claim I was doing 63/50, I run with a GPS program that records my speed at any given second and also records the location. If he insisted after that, I would make him look like a fool in court.Beiruty wrote:Yep,
It finally happened, yesterday afternoon, I was pulled over by on of the finest Traffic Patrol Unit (unmarked patrol car), Officer BB.
Place: Driving southbound from Allen, TX to Plano, TX on Service Road of I-75 somewhere just after Chase Oaks Blvd(i.e. just entering Plano City limits)
Time: Around 5:30 to 6:00 PM
Reason for being pulled over: Speeding, Officer BB claimed that I was clocked at 63 MPH in 50 zone. In fact, the speed in Allen section of the road is posted at 55 MPH.
Intent of the trip was to drive to Carrabass Restaurant to enjoy a nice Italian dinner with my wife and our Daughter of 7 and our son of 3.
The story is I did not notice the hidden, um marked black car was in pursuit, till It was square in my rear view mirror and the Xmas tree lights are flashing crazy. And, I was now entering the I-75. As soon as I noticed that I was being pulled over by the patrol car in my rear view mirror, I proceed to slow down and find a safe parking spot on the merge-in lane to the I-75.
My wife in the passenger seat, both kids are in the back seat, Ryan in his car seat and Yesmeena both wear seat belts. The officer run our Lic Plate number and of course discovered that I do carry. He approached our car from the passenger side, introduced himself as Officer BB from Plano PD traffic enforcement unit. He just added that I was doing 63 MPH in and accelerating fast, he did past 70 and was not able to catch me quickly. I responded that I do believe that I was doing 55. He requested IDs and proof of Insurance. My wife hand him over the docs from my wallet. And, I asked her to hand over my CHL too. The officer asked if I am carrying my firearm, I said: "yes". He asked where is it? I mentioned that it is in fanny pack on the weak side of my waist. He requested both home and work cell numbers and confirmed my home address. He asked why I was in a rush. My wife noted we are hungry and we where on our way to have dinner at Carrabass.
He went back to his car and proceeded to write up the ticket. Came back and asked me to sign it as notice to show up at court in 15 days. I kindly responded that I do understand the process. He finally, mentioned that I can benefit from defensive course and keep the ticket of my records. And, thanked us for Courtesy!
Ah, now wife said, go get your Valentine One installed in my RL instead of her MDX!
now I have spend some 10 hrs in a defensive driving school. Bonus I get some $50 discount from GEICO.

Re: First time pulled over (Speeding) while carrying, Plano,
Most smart phones will support this. The FCC requires that all mobile phones have the ability to identify your location to within about 50-100 meters if you call 911. This is accomplished in different ways, such as triangulating the signal strength from the towers, or using a full-blown GPS chip within your phone, or a combination of the above called Assisted GPS, where it determines roughly where you're at from your tower location, and then uses the GPS chip to narrow it down to sometimes within 3 meters.baraco01 wrote:@oldcurlywolf, what kind of gadget are you using? If you have a modern smart phone (like an Android or BlackBerry or iPhone or whatever) you can download applications that allow you to use your phone as a GPS. Some offer turn-by-turn navigation, some are tailored to joggers/bikers/etc...and some come standard with the phone as a core part of the device.
I use an app on my BlackBerry called RoadRunnerGPS. http://roadrunnergps.com/ It shows me a map of my route and I can see my speed and elevation at each point of the trip. It's designed for exercise, but I suppose it could be used for tracking vehicle trips as well.

Re: First time pulled over (Speeding) while carrying, Plano,
RadarTest.com shows completely opposite results. What devices did you use to jam? What lasers and modes were used to test? What methods? I'm not discounting what you experienced, but am curious.gigag04 wrote:FWIW our motors guys have tested laser jammers, shifters, closing devices, hyperdrive, and photon torpedoes.
I say save your money. V1s are good as are the higher end Passports.
Just about all radar detector sites believe that the V1 is surviving on "OLD" word of mouth reputation alone, not on true test results. It's not better than any of the newer devices.
My old Bel 975R in the real world matched results on their tests for radar (it never claimed to jam laser), so I believe them about the Qi45. Granted the Qi45 test results say that the vehicle they tested it on was smaller & more ideal to be less "laserable" (for lack of a better term).
I'm waiting (with bated breath) to be in a scenario where I hope my Qi45 warns me enough to avoid a ticket.

This one has saved me to the extent that the detector is paid for itself... Including Laser.

Re: First time pulled over (Speeding) while carrying, Plano,
Any of you recommend a laser jammer? Of course the one that you actually see that works. I am interested in getting one and one of those detectors/gps or any gadget that would record speed and location.
