First LEO encounter while carrying

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

First LEO encounter while carrying

#1

Post by djbstanley »

This is my first posting on this board. I felt so compelled by my first LEO contact that I thought I would share this with the rest of you.

Yesterday, I was involved in a small fender bender, my fault, and had to call the local police to have it documented. Now let me be the first to say that our local police department is pretty small, no more than 50 officers. I work at the county jail and have dealt with about 99 percent of them on a regular day to day basis. That being said, my last encounter with them more than a year ago now outside of the jail didn't go too smoothly. They acted like they didn't know me at all! So to say the least I was dreading this encounter. Well after about 30 minutes of waiting, the officer finally showed up to the scene to take the report. I did what every CHL carrier is required and handed both of my ID cards over and held my breath. He looked both of them over, handed back my CHL card and said "just don't pull it out on me". Now breath! WOW! That's it? The rest of the time went smooth, he questioned me about the accident and wrote the report. He shook my hand and left. Besides the minimal damage to my truck and the ladies truck that I hit I was really relieved. That just gives me a lot more confidence while carrying and dealing with LEO's. On a side note, the officer was assigned to traffic accidents (the only one here in our small little town), and I had never seen him at the jail. :txflag:

So happy to hear that everyone is safe and that the aftermath of the accident was handled well! Welcome to the forum!

That alone is a good sign. Most LEO's don't like shaking hands with strangers...afraid of cooties I guess. :biggrinjester:

Glad you had a good experience. It seems that more and more CHLers are getting the respect we deserve these days.

It is always nice when they have a bit of faith in us. Some time back a DPS officer had to come out on an accident I was involved in because an idiot ran right through a red light with no insurance. I handed him the DL and CHL and he handed the CHL back and said "I don't need that". Wrote the other guy a ticket and got me a tow truck.
