Too funny

I got stopped today for 50mph in a 40mph. this was the strangest and best contact I've had so far, I just had to share.

I got pulled over on Howard by a motorcycle officer. he walks up and explains the stop and asks for the license, insurance, etc. I give the customary reply, " I have a CHL and I'm currently armed". he's response while shrugging his shoulders "I would be". we both just kind of paused. I reach for my I.D and he goes on to explain that he always questions people who flash their license but aren't carrying. I just kind of chuckle, he then asks if I'm an NRA member and if I have my Card. I am and I do, so I fished it out of my wallet and handed it over. He says "you know what I do with NRA members?" "Nothing, I figure we're going to need as many armed NRA members as possible really soon". I of course agree and express my gratitude for giving me a free pass. then the conversation turns toward the state of the country, the current administration and Arizona. it was great!

as he is walking away he turns and asks me what "I'm packing". I told him a Sig P239. he comes back to the car and tells me his son had just picked one up from GT dist. so we chat briefly about that.

anyway, he followed up by giving me his card and telling me to mention the NRA and the stop to others.

Wow, and all the time I thought LEO's were giving us a break because we were CHL's and it was really the NRA membership. I knew I had that card showing in my wallet for a reason.

Makes me glad I slapped that sticker along with my TSRA sticker on my back glass! That is an awesome stop. I hope my next one goes that same way. Once the OP said motorcycle cop I was sure he got a ticket. I haven't heard of a motor cop letting people off very often.

That may explain why my stop was so uneventful. I have the following stickers on the back left-side window on two of my cars (I don't stick stickers on the ragtop):

I was all wrapped up in my GPS on side road to nowhere, hunting for the YMCA camp to pick up my wife from their "Senior Olympics." LEO came up and asked for DL and insurance. I had no CHL at the time and handed them to him. He asked, "Are those DFC plates?" I said, "yes.... sir." He walked backed to his car and I thought, "Hmmm, maybe he'll cut me a break " He came back, had me sign my ticket, and I was on my way. No slack. Maybe I'll mount my NRA and TSRA sickers on the car and see if they work better

Sorry for the abbreviation, but yes. In my day (I'm 68) the Army had no Aviation Branch. I was an enlisted Infantry (11C heavy weapons) for 5 years, and a commissioned infantry/aviator after that. The Army was always deathly afraid of losing their close air support assets, like when the Army Air Corps broke away to become the Air Force. That all changed in the late eighties.

I have to admit that more times than not, having a CHL has been a "get out of a ticket" card for me, at least in my younger years, I try to drive pretty civil now. Usually the conversation turns into what are you carrying, along with discussions on various other guns, etc. I've only had one officer, a local motorjock, that didn't react to kindly to it - he had me exit the vehicle (pistol was in the center console). Maybe it was the fact that I was in a dark suit, it was 100 degrees out and he wanted someone else to share in his misery?

The two times I have been pulled over in Texas since moving back (moved out in 2001 and back in 2007), I have always outgunned the officer. I had my CHL (and armed) both times, I did not have my CHL before leaving and I had not been pulled over in about 10 years.

It tunred into a what do I have and what do you have.

I did not have my insurance card either time, so I did get a tickets for no proof but faxed in the proof and no fine or moving violations.

Both times I was speeding (about 10 over) and in an obviose location that going that rate was easily done. NOT SPEEDING TRAPS, just the right location for enertia to work in the right way:)
