Houston-area LEO's don't all deserve a bad rap...

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

That reminds me of the last time I was pulled over it was back in 01 or 02 I was moving my now wife down here with me from Wisconsin after I got out of the Navy and a car was "tail-gating me" at about 2 in the morning and being in my early 20's and full of vinegar and another type of liquid and with a 2000 Camaro I decided to get un-tailgated.. by flooring the pedal. So yeah the guy tail gating me was a TDPS officer and lit me up immediately pulled over and started rummaging around for my paperwork, I assumed he saw my Navy bumper stickers on my car as he came up to the window and told me that he had bigger fish to fry that night and that I need to slow it down, after the well inspired yes sir I went about my way.

I know some LEOs are also car guys and will cut the guys with nice rides some slack. Don't ask me how I know this... :tiphat:

On a side note, Purplehood, what do you do for a living, and how do I sign up?

I came (probably) within one mph of getting pulled over last week.
I normally follow the speed limit, but on this occasion, KZPS was playing "JUMP"
by Van Halen. There are two songs that cause my little VW to speed up. Jump is
one of the two. --- I think my breathing stopped when I realized I was passing
a radar patrolman pulled over into a driveway. --- Now that I know what
causes the car to speed, I can take preventive measures.

Yeah - I wasn't really offended by the earlier comments - I understand that getting a ticket sucks...

I've been making upward of 8-10 stops a night (if calls for svc are minimal) and I only write like 2-3 tix per night. Most of my tickets are unrelated to the original reason for stop - suspended DL, No Insurance...those will get hammered every time. Stickers if they are way out of date will get cited. Flagrantly blowing a stop sign when people are walking in the area will get you paper.

I try to be reasonable in discretion and do what I feel the majority of the neighboring citizens would appreciate.

I've been rear ended by someone with no insurance so I will write that every time. I am of the opinion that I can be polite and courteous even in the akward instance of citing them for a traffic violation. I've had people thank me at the end of a contact even when they got a ticket.

Purplehood, there's a wonderfully *legal* way to really open up your car, and have an incredible amount of fun - driver's ed events at Texas World Speedway in College Station. I've been active in the local Porsche Club region for about 10 years, and have been instructing at these events for about 8 years. Check it out:

http://www.lsrpca.com/drivers_ed.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can drive 8 sessions a weekend for about the cost of one speeding ticket ;-). You have to get your car inspected prior to the event (make sure it's not leaking any fluids, that the brakes are good, etc) and you've got to wear a helmet. You get an instructor in the right seat to keep you out of trouble (and teach you) on every outing, and several classroom sessions.

The next event is in about 3 weeks. Not sure if there's any room left in the beginner run group, but regardless you should come out & pay a visit, check out the scene.

Edit: you don't have to be a club member, or drive a Porsche. We have people turn up in all kinds of rides (Corvettes, Vipers, Japanese stuff, even econoboxes and sedans).
