Officer Disciplined For Ending Chase

As Paul Harvey once said, "and the rest of the story" (for what it is worth):

As I understand it, it was an action that required prior authorization. He was supposed to call in and ask permission to do the maneuver as it is not a "normally authorized" one. So technically the city shields itself from liability, yet only has to issue a reprimand for failing to heed and the officer getting things to turn out the way he hoped.

We all know a few things.

A) It worked out well.
B) He should be commended.
C) In the middle of a chase you probably don't want to call in and ask permission and provide justification ("it is better to ask foregiveness than permission" or some such quote).
