new LEO makes a big mistake
Awhile back while I was in the process of purchasing my first gun, I was at the counter looking at some other guns just killing the time till the employee got off the phone, when I noticed a bunch of new officers getting their standard issue equipment. There was one LEO next to me who was looking at his new pistol. Trying not to stare, I was kinda looking at him out of the corner of my eye when I noticed him make one of the dumbest moves I've ever seen anyone make. While fumbling around with pistol pointing it in every direction, looking through the sites, I saw him take a peak at the down the barrel of the gun.... I think he instantly noticed he made a big mistake and quickly looked around to make sure no one was looking and then set the pistol down on the counter. I didnt know what to think I was shocked at what I saw, I was farely new to guns at the time and even I knew that was a major no no, and this guys going to be patroling the streets.....

They are likely just starting training and haven't even got their paper training yet.HD1200S wrote:Awhile back while I was in the process of purchasing my first gun, I was at the counter looking at some other guns just killing the time till the employee got off the phone, when I noticed a bunch of new officers getting their standard issue equipment. As has often been said, not all LEO's are "gun people." Did the LEO-trainee at least make sure the pistol was unloaded first?
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

You know its funny you ask that, and I honestly cant remember if he did, I would hope he at least did that, if not he might have a short career.barres wrote:As has often been said, not all LEO's are "gun people." Did the LEO-trainee at least make sure the pistol was unloaded first?

I know of an "Austin PD trainee" who would just leave his glock in his apartment when he wasnt home.
Well, his apartment was broken into and the gun stolen.

When I was working for Fry's LP in Arlington I had a guy apply with the same story ... strange.

Re: new LEO makes a big mistake
Every one has to start from the beginning and that may have been the first pistol he had ever picked up. Like barres said, not all LEO's are gun people and probably didn't cut his teeth on one like most of us have.
