Positive First LEO contact with Schertz PD

Most CHL/LEO contacts are positive, how about yours? Bloopers are fun, but no names please, if it will cause a LEO problems!

Positive First LEO contact with Schertz PD

Post by arod757 »

Got stopped for the first time with my CHL today. Officer was nice enough to point out my inspection sticker was expired. :banghead:

Anyway, handed him my licenses and insurance. He asked, "You don't have a weapon on you, do you?" That got me worried for a second. It sounded like he wasn't expecting me to actually have my gun on me. :???:

I told him it was on my right hip. He said, "Okay. Just keep your hands on the wheel. I'll be right back. I don't worry about CHLs. They don't just give those out to anybody." I said, "That's right, sir. Thank you."

He told me to get my inspection taken care of and to have a good day, and that was that. No problemo. :thumbs2:

In Houston, the LEO's sit on the on-ramp from Hwy 59 to 610N during rush-hour, and I mean stand on the roadside (when it is bumper to bumper and you are crawling) and watch for expired registration. If they see an expired sticker they wave you over. Behind the moto-cop is 2 tow trucks.
Guess what, that CHL may not help you out inside the Houston beltway.

They hang out in the U-Turn(going from South to North) at West Rd./I-45 too, around lunch time; traffic is at a standstill and they watch for both stickers, registration and inspection(and probably anything else, front license plates, seat belts, who knows), there are always a few cars pulled over.

Bellaire PD does the same at the 610 West Loop and Fournace U-turn lane. If you keep your vehicle inspection current there shouldn't be a problem.

Why do you get towed for an expired sticker? Your vehicle isn't inoperative. Sounds like a typical scumbag police money grab to me..

I haven't checked to see exactly why they are towing. But whatever it is for, it must be frequent because when the motorcycle cop is there, the tow trucks are there.

I'm pretty sure this is for all the accidents that happen on the 610. The tow trucks are just waiting for the music!

How long have you lived in Houston? ;) If you look carefully enough, you can see 3-6 wreckers parked around the corner anytime HPD, HCCO, or HCSO make a traffic stop. They're just hanging out, waiting to score a tow if a driver should happen to have a warrant or something like that.

I have lived in Schertz for 20 years.
This is a wonderful town to live in. Very little crime and a very conservative group of retired and active military and civil service residents.
I have been stopped a few time since living here and it was never less than professional or unpleasant.
The Schertz Police Department Officers truly seem to respect and appreciate the residents and tax payers of this great community.
There are SPD officers who have paid dearly for protecting this community.
I tip my hat to them whenever I see them.
(I am not LE) just an appreciative citizen.

Stay Safe my Friends!
