I learned that I-10 close to downtown Houston is a 60 mph zone (I live in Jefferson county and don't get to Hoston much). I was caught with laser doing 70.
When the officer approched my truck I handed him my DL and CHL, he asked if where my firearm was and asked me to step out of my vehicle. He then made the comment that he agreed with CHL's but he just needed to seperate me from my firearm. I told him I understood and I stood by my truck while he wrote me up. Nice guy, no attitude, but I still don't like the idea of spending $180 when I was just driving with traffic. This is the first time I have been stopped in a long time and the first time ever with my CHL.

Yeah, that kinda stinks. Oh well, what do you do. I've been told before that it traffic is running 80, and you're running 60, YOU will get a ticket because you are a traffic hazard! But if everybody else is running 80 and you get a ticket for running 80, it's because you were speeding!?! Oh well, I run the speed limit, no more, no less. If I get a ticket for being a traffic hazard for running too slow, oh well. Life goes on. Darned if you do and darned if you don't.

This may be more of a myth than a fact. LEOs? Lawyers? I try really hard to obey the speed limit. Really. I do catch myself occasionally doing 10 over or so but as soon as I do, I slow it down.
That certainly is a steep fine. If I were in your shoes I'd go to court and ask if I could take defensive driving and if you're not eligible, ask for deferred adjudication, which means you still pay the fine but after 3 months probation and no more infractions, the ticket will "disappear" magically into the Harris County piling system.

Yes I should have applied for defensive driving but I procrastonated to the point that I had to pay online because I could not get out of work to go to court.

I think that's a bit steep.
If johnny law wants to hold onto my gun while he writes me a ticket, as long as I get it back when he's done, that's fine with me. Anything that makes him more confortable in a situation like that is ok by me.

Same logic. Without specific behavior that makes the officer worry for his safety, there is no reason to disarm a citizen, and doing so is an insult.
Now, with such behavior, I agree with disarming the person, and even unloading magazines and such.
