He must have an older 7.3. When the tree-huggers pushed the new diesel regs through, causing the 7.3 to be ineligible for new sale, Ford introduced the 6.0 - which does good to get 16-17 on the highway.9mmGuy wrote:my boss has a turbo diesel F350 and gets about 25 mpg on the highway. just cause there big does not mean they aren’t efficient.

Economy car - 30mpg, 1 person = 30 p-m/g
SUV - 15mpg, 2 people = 30 p-m/g
F350 - 10mpg, 2 people = 20 p-m/g
No reason the Accord should be kept out of the lane when the trucks get to use it.
I am going to throw down the bull pile flag on this one.
My F250 turbodiesel achieved 22 mpg once, usually 18-19. highway unloaded while maintaining 600 degF exhaust temp which is the 7.3 most efficient point.

I have a friend who has a 1-ton 4x4 with 7.3, a power chip and Banks power pack. If he keeps it at 55-60 he rolls out about 25-26, with an average on a 200 mile trip at about 23-24. He said the chip and exhaust really made a difference and gained him about 3-4 on the the highway.anygunanywhere wrote:9mmGuy wrote:my boss has a turbo diesel F350 and gets about 25 mpg on the highway. just cause there big does not mean they aren’t efficient.KD5NRH wrote:Base it on person-miles/gallon:boomerang wrote:I think it's a good idea to allow motorcycles in the HOV lane if the goal is to reduce congestion and save fuel. Mine has ram-air, all synthetics in engine, tranny, rear, was chipped before PCU fried. The fried PCU took out the chip and 3 sensors (ouch). Only mod I don't have is big exhaust.Keith B wrote:I have a friend who has a 1-ton 4x4 with 7.3, a power chip and Banks power pack. I can't drive 55 unless the speed limit says to.
Still love the 7.3. Mrs. Anygun wants to buy me a new one since my current one has the 6 spd handshaker and she does not like rowing gears.
They are really proud of those new trucks. Lots more than I forked out for my current superduty.

Maybe it's working for him, but bigger pipes aren't always more efficient. Very few automotive exhaust systems do anything to eliminate standing waves and actually tune the exhaust system. They could stand to take some lessons from the motorcycle world.

And to think I was learning something about what I can possibly do to improve the performance out of my dinky little 2005 F-150...
So I can get to the store and buy better ammo, to go to a range and improve my shooting at the same time getting better gas mileage...

in the turbo world they are, to a certain extent. some back pressure is needed to prevent to much turbo lag.KBCraig wrote:"6 inch turbo back" pipes?9mmGuy wrote:well, as it is not my truck i cant prove it, but thats what he told me. it is a 7.3L, with 6 inch turbo back, chip, blah, blah...
