Re: 2017 Legislative Priorities
Removal of any area (other than child care/primary/secondary school) from the 'off-limits' list on public college campuses. These are publicly owned institutions, why are they treated any differently than public city owned property that cannot post 30.06/07? Any prohibited areas should be defined in the penal code and not left to become a confusing patchwork of rules and policies differing at each and every campus in the state.

Anywhere where you cannot carry your pistol is a "dangerous off limits location".rotor wrote:Dumb question but what is a dangerous off limits location?artx wrote:I'm beyond excited to see the effort to remove dangerous off limits locations :)
Especially "known gun free zones". It has been proven that mass shooters specifically look for gun free zones to try to maximize their body counts because they know that no one will be able to stop them quickly.
Don't think that groups like isis will not be looking for the same thing if they are making plans to do something like the Westgate Mall attack, but here in Texas. Malls posted 30.06/7 are insanely dangerous. What better place to go on a disarmed victim shooting spree than a posted mall?
Similarly, everyone knows that you can attack unarmed folks at a polling place, race track, bar, courthouse (or right outside the courthouse) schools, private colleges, many think that churches are all off limits.

I tried not to post this, but I just can't stop.

Thank you. Just hadn't heard the saying in that way. I agree.AJSully421 wrote:Anywhere where you cannot carry your pistol is a "dangerous off limits location".rotor wrote:Dumb question but what is a dangerous off limits location?artx wrote:I'm beyond excited to see the effort to remove dangerous off limits locations :)

Re: 2017 Legislative Priorities
When I say off-limits areas are dangerous, I mean to the unarmed LTC. I also agree strongly with 30.06 signs, but that's private property and I'm focusing on statutorily off-limits areas.

I'll salute that....Charles L. Cotton wrote:Top priority - Remove all unnecessary and dangerous off-limits areas for LTCs. The only exception should be courtrooms when the LTC is a party or witness to an ongoing case.

Re: 2017 Legislative Priorities
I'd like to add clearing up the volunteer church volunteer security issues.
There is precedence now that schools are openly posting they have armed faculty and staff and will defend their students. Some schools pay stipends for firearms, ammo, and training but the personnel are not licensed security guards. Other schools just allow the employees to carry if they so choose.
I don't see why a volunteer group at churches is any different.
No uniforms, badges, or tiaras, just church members watching over the flock.

Re: 2017 Legislative Priorities
I'd actually really like to see a bill similar to other states that attempts to void federal gun control and prohibit enforcement of said controls by state agencies.
This may be pie in the sky, but I definitely think that this will be something that we may want to have on the books depending on how the election and subsequent supreme court nominees shake out.
