Two men carrying handguns entered a home through the open garage and unlocked interior door about 11:30 yesterday (I think). The woman home alone fired at them. One intruder made it as far as the front yard before expiring, the other jumped a fence and disappeared, unknown if he is wounded.

Ok, she should close her garage door and lock the interior door, but the real key items are:
A neighbor saw the dead suspect in the woman's front yard and called police.
And:
"It's the state of Texas. If you're going to go into someone's home, you're going to get shot," [neighbor Cathy] Hanks said.

From the second article:
Harris County Sheriff's Office's spokesman Thomas Gilliland told WTSP that both intruders -- neither of whom were identified -- were armed with pistols when the woman confronted them.
They weren't coming in to fix her a glass of iced tea, were they? Good for her, defending herself with the appropriate level of force required.

One assailant at large. The police didn't include key descriptive info like race, so we'll have to guess at that. There is a clue though.
Police are still looking for the second intruder, described as a man in his 20s who was wearing dark clothing with red underwear peeking out of his pants.
