A customer who just left a check cashing store in the Northline area fatally shot a man who tried to rob him, Houston police said.
The customer, Richard A. Smith, and his fiancee were leaving the business in the 100 block of Little York, near Airline, about 1:10 p.m. Wednesday when a man approached them and demanded money, police said. The man concealed his hands in a threatening manner, police said.
Smith fired his handgun and fatally struck the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
But...
Whoops.Smith, 27, has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was previously convicted of felony robbery in Warren County, Miss. , according to court records.
