My daughter is using my Hazelwood Act benefits for nursing school. For folks that don't know (especially if you are a veteran who enlisted in Texas) the Hazelwood act kicks in after GI Bill benefits are no longer available. The state of Texas doesn't pay for the school...the school doesn't get compensates for tuition. But the school is REQUIRED to take Hazelwood Act covered students tuition free. This is part of the deal when they accept state funding. They can't turn Hazelwood students away.

Attach campus carry to this and they have to allow it just like they have to take Hazelwood students...ooooor they can turn down the state funding.

Now that's an excellent idea!

And.... The only way we'll ever get ISD Boards and Superintendents to adopt the Marshall Program is with legislative force as well. Those folks also live in a world where cans of corn are an acceptable defensive plan. It's time for a change in strategy at the K-12 level too. Attach a mandate to the new school funding plan..

I just figured a line is already drawn. the mechanism is already in a desirable place...use it....then the ball is in their court. Let's see how many metaphors I can throw in there...lol

The article seems somewhat sensational, but if it's accurate, this is close to what I imagined would happen. The public words of Abbott and Patick are a game changer, as was the record vote for speaker. Strauss knows he's under the spotlight and the games of yesteryear won't work - where he appeases his inner circle and publicly claims he's trying everything he can to move bills forward.

Sounds like a lonely island he's carved out for himself.

The good news to me is that his inner circle is seething, and the assignments show he's listening to this pressure more than them. I don't care what kind of rants he goes on behind closed doors - as long as its nothing more than empty posturing to save face with his inner circle.

Abbott and Patrick have been so bold and gotten so much support for their agenda, if Strauss is seen as the reason it fails, I imagine they pour all the resources the state Party has into making sure he's not a problem in 2017. I'm hoping Strauss is reading the cards the same way.

Michael Quinn Sullivan has done a lot to expose Straus and his cronies. While I have yet to find anyone that I totally agree with on every issue, not hopeful I ever will, I think he has done much in the effort to advance conservative efforts. He hasn't as far as I know been a huge player in gun rights issues but he champions fiscal conservatism and busting up some of the cronyism that had plagued the House since Straus to control.

Bottom line, I typically give him the benefit of the doubt. Take that for what you paid for it.
