First off I have ready about two hours worth of gun belt threads here and most of them are about new belts and how awesome they are. I am more interested in their durability.

Some background... This year I decided to finally loose weight and I went from a 56" waist to now a 48" since March 2013 and yes I am still fat but I am getting there, slowly. I did not start a magic diet rather I just changed my eating habits and starts to watch what I eat and preparing most all foods at home minus one cheat day a week where I can eat anything. Now I have added some light excercises but mostly it has been the food choices I made. That being said I went from 365 lbs at my worst and now at 310 and getting less slowly. This works for me and I have no intention to change yet.

Up until now I have been using a custom gun belt from Hopp and now I have run out of holes for the buckle and looking to replace the belt. This current belt has gotten weak where the holster attaches and it droops and the top of the gun swing outward when wearing a OWB holster after about a year of use. So I am hoping someone will be able to provide a long term update on their belt and where they purchased it. I would rather not spend another $120 on a gun belt for a year but would like quality which means I will have to spend some money.

So any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance.

I use a belt by 5.11 tactical. Cost about $35. Carry a glock 19 owb in a raven concealment phantom. Works or me.

Have you considered a Wilderness instructor belt? Less than $50 works great, no buckle holes quick delivery.

I can't speak for all but my Beltman double cowhide belt is still tough after several years.

EDIT: Congrats on the weight loss! If you have grandkids they will thank you. If you don't keep it up and chances are you'll live long enough to enjoy spoiling them.

Beltman and other leather workers can usually shorten a belt by taking the buckle off, chop off about 6 inches, and reinstall the buckle.

I have a belt from A&G Custom Gun Leather, it looks great and built tough, I previously had a Crossbreed belt and the A&G is of better quality and does not show any wear at all. I received the quick ship belt two days after I ordered it, it is $79.95 but well worth it.

Purchasing a double layered belt will last you a very long time. The dual layers keep the belt from sagging and stretching. These belts are also glued and stitched to make them durable. Belts like these will run on average 75.00 dollars but are well worth the cost.

Congrats on the weight loss. I just currently dropped 30 pounds and am feeling great!!!

I've got 3 of the daltechforce gunbelts, a single layer belt, a dual-layer with stiffener belt, and their "SuperBIO Belt". It is definitely worth getting the dual-layer with stiffener belt instead of the single layer belt. I also wear the "SuperBIO Belt" every week and like it a lot too.

The Instructor belt I'm using has been awesome for several years........as my weight has gone up and down. And not wanting to give exact specifications out of embarrassment, daniel2002p, let's just say you and I are in roughly the same ballpark. It is by far the best belt I've ever bought. I got the one with the extra 5-stitch reinforcement, but without the polymer liner, and I bought in October of 2010, so nearly 3 years ago.......and I've worn it pretty much every single day since. I ordered mine in a custom size, and it came to $54.95 plus $9.95 shipping. You just can't beat that for value for a custom made belt. Also, mine has held up everything from a 13 oz scandium snubbie to a 40 oz 5" 1911 and a lot of magazines. The secret to making them last is to not be afraid to reverse the direction you put it on periodically so that it keeps its shape, but I'll likely die of old age before the thing wears out. Also, if you want to save money when you order a new one, you can just send them in your old one and they'll reuse the belt buckle on the new one they make for you.

I'm fixin' to order another one, just to change up the color a bit so I can have two of them. Mine is a coyote brown, but I think I'm going to get either a black one or a OD Green one.

If you can (style-wise) wear a nylon belt, I really like my Atlas, and it's VERY adjustable as you continue to lose weight.

I've been using a Galco Cop Duty belt that I purchased from an LGS. I think it was around $50 and it worked fine for the past few years but has gotten really soft and flimsy. I just got my order in from Beltman yesterday and I have to say...the quality of this belt compared to the Galco is night and day. I thought the Galco was good when I first bought it but there is no comparison against this Beltman. I have a belt and holster from Hopp that I am waiting on.
