First, let me apologize for yet another "hey, help me find (X product) for my (insert firearm)" thread.

That said, I've got an XD40 5" that I need to be able to conceal under business professional attire, minus the jacket.

I've looked into the IWB holsters, but, with the requirement that the shirt be fully tucked in, I don't think they'll work, as it'd bunch up the shirt where the firearm is, and make it even more noticeable...

Assuming you also have a good gun belt (not just any belt that seems sturdy) you can use a holster like Crossbreed Supertuck to easily conceal a full sized Auto under a tucked shirt.
Once you get the belt and holster on, and tucked, YOU will notice a slight bulge, but no one else will.
what I do (more for my own peace of mind) is i 'pillow' out the shirt all around my body, so I don't have a bulge on one side, and nothing on the other.
I have carried under a tucked TSHIRT, and no one has ever noticed.
and almost daily I carry under an untucked Tshirt (not oversized) and have for a couple of years. never an issue.

Find someone in your area with a Crossbreed and a good gun belt, get them to let you try it on, and you will convince yourself quite quickly.

Having dealt with this issue in almost every way possible, I'll give you what I've found for usable solutions for concealment

1 - get a smaller gun. That thing is huge.

2 - non-traditional carry, ie thunderwear.

3 - wear poorly fitted work clothes



Another way to look at it is this...pick any 2:

Carry a big gun

Conceal a gun well

Look presentable

A snub nosed revolver or a small semi auto in a pocket holster works for me. Your shirt is neatly tucked, your gun is readily available. Pleated front slacks are the best for this method of carry but any well fitting dress slacks should work.

I carried a P226 in a CTAC IWB with a tucked in dress shirt or kit golf shirt, tucked in, no problems except it's more of a nuisance tucking in the shirt at just the right level.

They work even better if you replace your shirt buttons with snaps, so it can be ripped open quickly, if needed.

I wear a CompTac MTAC with my XDm 9mm compact and have tucked in dress shirts as described by others here...

Ok, let me throw a few replies out here...

1. I've looked at the crossbreed holsters, and fail to understand how you successfully tuck a shirt in with something that's clipped to the inside of your belt...clarification/pictures would be awesome.

2. Sorry for how this is going to sound, but, a different pistol isn't going to happen. I don't like shooting compact or subcompact pistols. They aren't comfortable to me, nor do I really feel the need to spend even more on another pistol after I'm dropping nearly $600 to replace the 4" xd40 that was stolen last weekend. The question was solutions for concealing this one, not "what gun should I go buy and then still have to conceal it".

3. Any experience with stuff like the 5.11 holster shirts or similar setups?

4. Gun belt: just a nice rigid and strong belt, correct? If so, I've got it covered. 99% of the time I wear a condor brand "rigger's belt" and it's a 1.75" wide by approximately 0.125" thick nylon belt. It's strong enough I've used it as a rappelling harness, so, I'm not worried there...

The screws that hold the clips on the holster are near the bottom of the leather/kydex, so you spread the gap between the holster and the clips (when clips are already on the belt).
you tuck your shirt in that gap.

Rigid and strong yes, but also inflexible,
the issue is not that the belt will break on the weight, but more so that the belt will flex (like the gun wants to flop over on the side).
I have never used a nylon belt for a gun belt, but I have tried various "strong leather belts" before getting a real gun belt, and WOW what a difference.
a "real" gun belt is what I would recommend - YES, they can be expensive. Mine was about $100 shipped

I wear a CrossBreed SuperTuck but have swapped out the clips for C-clips from CompTac...they multiply the ride height and cant options AND allow almost an inch more tuck for my shirts...

I fully appreciate your position on this - and agree wholeheartely. I carry a full sized Sig Sauer with a 17-round mag, and mine tucks just fine in my Crossbreed. If you're in Houston, I'll be happy to let you try it out.

I have some 5.11 under gear holster shirts. They work well for me with small and medium frame pistols, but frankly the medium becomes weary on rib cage late in the day - not so much small frame. The biggest draw back is Texas heat, so I'm no fan of them in summer nor do I like the body gunk/sweat on my weapon. Will use mostly in cooler weather and/or around home in AC. IMO they are somewhat expensive, but they do work. Not sure how well with full size CCW. I've got beau coup tuckable holsters, leather and hybrid, but since I'm no longer in corporate world haven't a clue how they work tucked. LOL

Their web site is down today but this is an alternative and there is a youtube video that shows it. Does the job of carrying your cell phone and your gun. Fast draw - no. Always a compromise. But you can wear a business outfit and not print or show and it is comfortable.
