I'm about to purchase some nice Crimson Trace Lasergrips for my Kimber Ultra CDP II, and have been looking around at several sites to purchase from. I guess my impulse to buy them just so happened to line up with their $50.00 rebate offer!!! Anyways, what are these (new?) Hi-Brite grips I'm reading about? Seems no site I've come across has had an explanation of what's changed between them and the older ones.
Also, just looking for some opinions here because I can't seem to make up my mind: What color? The black grips, or the walnut ones to keep in the spirit of the original colors.

I went to the Lasermax site and there is no mention of 'Hi-Brite' anywhere. I downloaded and searched their 2011 catalog and it does not contain the word 'Hi-Brite'.
I looked up a part number that elsewhere on the 'net was listed as 'Hi-Brite' and its description in the Lasermax catalog is just a regular guide rod laser.

I saw it a lot on Amazon and eBay. When I checked CTC's and others' sites, there was no indication of it, however, I just wanted to double check with members here to see if I was missing anything.
Thanks for the reply. Now to choose a color....

When I was thinking about a set of CT Lasergrips for my Ultra CDP, I couldn't make up my mind what color either.
At the Ft Worth gun show, there was one table in particular that was selling them. He had them in black, brown, carbon fiber, & black with little white flames. After looking at them all, I decided on the black. He told me that was a good choice because they are all black underneath and that it would show through with wear.
I have not regretted my choice one bit. An added bonus is that the CT grips don't eat my hide like the original wood grips did.

Pawpaw,
I had already been leaning towards black as well--I just think it looks better overall. I think you agreeing with my initial feeling settles it for me, black it is. Also, what did you end up doing about the ambidextrous thumb safety? Gun smith? Or does someone sell a smaller version that can be installed easily? I know CTC makes the following claim on their website: "Ambidextrous-safety models require shortened safeties, available from Crimson Trace. Kimber 1911 owners with ambi-safety must see a gunsmith."

The statement on their site is correct. It won't work with the stock right-side ambi. It's too long and will hit the laser housing.
I ordered the bobbed right-side only directly from Kimber:
http://www.kimberamerica.com/shop/produ ... 09&xSec=21 It looks like they're out of stock right now.

The good news is that it only takes a few seconds to change. No gunsmithing (or tools) needed.
The
black one is in stock, if you just can't wait.
Any other option will either mean a trip to the gunsmith or using a dremel to cut it down yourself.

Pawpaw,
Thanks, looks like I'll just keep checking their website until they have some.

I got the "burlwood" for my Ultra CDP II. But now that I've seen both, I think I'd get the "rosewood" (like what comes on the Kimber Crimson Carry series and is now availbe from the factory on the CDP) if I had it to do over again. Anybody want to trade?

My Pro Crimson Carry II came with the rosewood grips. I love it, that tri-color look is a big reason why I wanted the version I got :)
