Nice OWB that will not take 12 months to get?

#1

Post by cyphur »

I'm looking for a good OWB holster - I daily carry a G27 so I'd like to keep a decent cant on it. I carry from 3 o'clock to 430 on the belt. Would prefer leather but a good kydex is not out of the question, just needs to be stable.

Would prefer it to be low-pro, low signature, something similar to a slide or pancake holster. I need it to tuck the grip close in to my body.

And I'd like to get it prior to this Christmas or next May!!

Thanks in advance....

Just as an addon....I have a Safariland OWB for the G27 right now, but it's quite stiff due to a plastic sheet they press in between two sheets of leather for both the inside and outside parts of the holster. It makes it dang near impossible to develop a smooth draw (or any effective draw) and it also means the holster doesn't do much to form to your body.

Looking to avoid those shortfalls.....

I have had good success with two brands OWB holsters. One is the Concealable Belt Holster from Galco. I have two, one for a 3" 1911, and one for a 5" 1911. They are very stiff and it looks like they'll both outlast me. I received them both in a reasonable time, say maybe a week or so after ordering them, although I could not get them in the desired color (tan). I'm left handed, and at the time anyway, Galco was not offering those holsters to lefties in anything but black. So black they are.

The other brand is one I got very recently. It is an Undercover from Kirkpatrick Gun Leather. As far as the quality, I would put it on a par with the Galco products. It is marginally less stiff, but the boning is more detailed. It fits a full sized M&P 45. Due to the slightly lower stiffness, the gun slid right into it the first time with very little extra effort. It fits like a glove and retention is very good. It is also marginally more comfortable for me to wear all day, and I think that has something to do with the stiffness also.

That said, the Kirpatrick Gunleather holster took 10 weeks and 3 days to get to me. At the time I bought it, their published turnaround time was 4-6 weeks, and they fell behind. They have since taken steps to get that under control, although they still say 10 weeks right now. I have a thread about it HERE.

Of the two, the Kirpatrick is the better deal. The Galcos go for $99.00, and the Kirkpatricks go for $74.00.

Here is a picture of the Galco holster from their website:

That's right. I had forgotten about them. Riverrat has done some really nice stuff recently.

I have written a review on RiverRat's work.
It is excellent.

Adams has the same reputation & neither have a huge backlog yet.

I dont think that will be the case 12 months from now. They are getting a lot of orders.

I just got an Avenger from Galco. The best way to describe it is half pancake and half belt. It is very comfortable and easy to conceal as the gun is held close to the body. It takes up less length along the belt than a pancake makes it easier to deal with belt loops!

Ordered a 1-SL pancake style holster with snap loops from Lobo Gun Leather on April 29, actually one for each of my carry guns. Got the notice on Monday (May 31) that both holsters and the mag pouches were in the mail. So, just about 1 month turn around.

I have a G27 and use the Highnoon skin deep. It is very comfortable. Here is a link. They have it in stock.
Also +1 on the Galco holsters.

I have a Galco Matrix that I'm very happy with. It's very comfortable, affordable, and minimal. It's a slide so I can use it with my 26 and my 19. It tucks close to my body as much as my IWB holster

I've also had good experience with my Galco Combat Master. It is a high-riding OWB holster with a good cant. This makes a carry gun very concealable under a cover garment. I carry a Hi-Power (and have had this holster for daily carry for 3 years now), and have had no complaints from mine. Here's the model for your gun:

It looks like the black right-handers are in stock with Galco, so you could get that one right away.

Here are some photos I took when I first got it:

I have one also and it's great for people who have to take the holster on and off a number of times a day.
