I made myself an appendix carry rig for my G17

I had this design sort of floating around my head for a while, so I figured I'd fab it up and see how it worked. I've made a few traditional pancake style holsters, and one other appendix-specific design, but after using it, I saw some improvements I could make.
my first rev was this:

however, in use, those straps made the fattest part of the assembly even fatter. learning from that, I wanted to move the strap out away from the main holster body. my followup design is alot thinner. also, in the intervening time, I changed my carry piece from m&p9c to g19/17. I have a remora holster for the 19 that works quite well, but nothing for my 17, so construction began.

finished product -- I sorta forgot to take any pictures during construction

running the T-shirt does-it-print test. I'd say it marginally passes

Well done. :hurry:

Does it hold up when you draw? In other words, can you re-holster with one hand?

Putting that belt loop towards the centerline will tend to push the butt outward.
If you put that loop on the other side, you'll tend to push the butt towards the body, where it'll conceal better.

Here's an example...

thanks! the leather is fairly stiff. it collapses a small amount when the gun is removed, but not enough to prevent you from re-holstering with 1 hand.

I like that. I saw another design where they put in a spacer at the rear hook point to force the gun to rotate a few degrees inward.

in the present design, that center-side loop doesn't have any rigidity in a direction that rotates the gun in the Yaw axis. ...not sure how else to describe it. it just provides a vertical anchor point. I think a rear hook point would definitely provide more structure. I'll look into how to do that.

I'm a bit embarrassed to say that at first glance I thought that holster wrapped in that supermarket advertisement was a finished product, perhaps some way to print the image on kydex or something. My first thought was "I wonder how they did that", second thought was "I wonder WHY they did that", and my third thought was "hmm... I wonder what kind of decorative image I should embed on mine"...

Check out the Alessi APX for your j-frame. I have one for my 642. It works and conceals well. http://shop.alessigunholsters.com/Belt-Holster/APX
