Finishing Leather with a Top Coat?

#1

Post by Keith B »

OK you leather guys and gals, I need input.

I picked up an El Paso Saddelry mag holder' in russet brown. I wanted black, but that was the only color they had, so I decided to get it and use some black Fiebings Dye to make it black. The color turned out great, but the dye is a little bad about coming off on fabric when you rub it.

What do you use to finish and seal in the dye so it doesn't rub off on your clothes? Would prefer satin or matt finish.

Thanks!

Fiebings Acrylic Resolene and/or Fiebings Leather Sheen Acrylic Spray. Airbrush the Resolene for best results. The daubers can be blotchy.

Thanks. Had to refinish my first holster because the daubers made it look sloppy. I like the spray can. Prior and post application, I buff with fleece cloth. I just ordered a square yard of cheap white fleece, and I cut little patches to hand buff. This helps remove excess dye. Also - I dye before I form, so much of my excess dye bleeds off into the bowl that I dunk it in.
