xd .40sc IWB ideas? Fashion ideas? (ha ha)
Who owns this gun or one similar to it? I would like to carry at 3:30-4:30 right side IWB. I am 5 8 and about 200 pounds. I have pretty small hands and would like to be able to get a good purchase.
I know this is the position I want to carry because I have been carrying around the house with no holster. Before anyone states how unsafe it is, I am aware. With no place around to try holsters It was my only option. I am not dropping 70-100 bucks on a holster till I get a better idea. Even if they have a return policy, I would rather get it done right the first time. If I can.
With that said. I am having a hard time concealing properly. I generally wear jeans and a t-shirt. Large shirts and 34/30 pants. I have tried 36/30 same result. When I stoop or sit then get up shirt usually laws on top of the handle. So while getting up I pull my shirt down. Other then untucked button down shirts (which I don't wear a lot) I have no clue how to find "longer" shirts. Xls look ridiculous on me. Imprinting seems to be an issue as well unless at 5:30-6:00.

I wear with a T-shirt and shorts all the time.
So it can be done and pretty easily
With no holster, you are guessing as how the weapon will hold, when bending, sitting, stretching, etc.
With a good holster (Crossbreed / Comp-Tac) snugged up the way they are intended, the gun (my XD9sc) just melts away and is not seen with a light t-shirt.
do yourself the favor, get either the crossbreed minituck (mine was made for my Taurus PT111 and holds my XD9sc nicely) or get a Comptac minotaur, and you will not be disappointed.
Also, get a good gun belt. I laughed at people when they kept saying that ($80 was not was I was hoping to pay, but), until i got one, makes a world of difference

Re: xd .40sc IWB ideas? Fashion ideas? (ha ha)
I have a thick black leather belt. What would a gunbelt offer over that? 80.00 dpesnt seem like a lot. but with Christmas- 2 birthdays and starting a new job its getting tight. So why am I looking still? I am selling some stuff to try and get the money ha ha.
Anytime someone is thinking of something I have I let them borrow it. SO thought I would put this out there.
I have looked at a super tuck, minotaur, summer comfort, and a few others.
I know a lot of people get a new holster or different gun. If someone has something they aren't using I will pay for shipping to try it? and if I like it sell it to me? or just let me use it as a friendly gesture then I would ship it back.
...going out on a limb here.

a quality gun belt is essential. Equally as important as the holster itself. 5.11 Tactical makes quality & durable (though not necessarily "pretty") gun belts that retail for about $35. You can often find these at half that price on eBay. EOTAC, Wilderness Tactical, and Blackhawk also make quality web belts that are strong enough to carry a gun all day.
As for holster, Cross Breed Supertuck, CompTac Minotaur, Durham holsters, Old Faithful holsters, etc. all offer similar products, all will work to keep the gun tight against your body and reduce printing.
One trick you might try is "stretching" your T-shirts a bit wider where they fall around your waist. Sometimes if the shirt is cut a bit too narrow or "clings" a bit too much, that can be a bigger problem than merely the "size" of the shirt. I used to just walk into a store, grab a shirt in my size, and walk out. I now have to try clothing on to make sure it will fit "just right" for concealment.
We've all been where you are. I'm 6-1 and about 275 with a well-formed middle-age gut and I'm able to conceal full-size Glocks, M&P etc. under T-shirts when I need to. But I do wear a shirt that is one size bigger than "normal" and don't worry what it makes me look like. When carrying a gun closer to size of your XDSC (my Glock 27, for instance) I can conceal it in Supertuck under a T-shirt that is my "normal" size.

Ballyband and smartcarry works great too. I am also 5'8" 200 lbs and I have no issue when I use a ballyband under a sweater.

Ok so the belt is a weight issue. Im assuming this is to replace the belt I have not in addition to? I saw a video where it appeared he was wearing 2 belts..

No you just wear the gun belt in place of your regular belt. Holds up your pants and your gun. Some folks do find gun belt AND regular trouser suspenders advantageous when worn together. And yes, weight of loaded gun, spare mags/ammo etc is the issue that requires a sturdy gun belt.1s1k52 wrote:Ok so the belt is a weight issue. A double layer leather belt works also, but needs to be VERY stiff.

My dad made boots, saddles etc in the 1940s; I made belts, watchbands (even hippy wrist and headbands in the 60s-1970s) .
A good reinforced gun belt makes a world of difference. Other than better concealment, an Oft not mentioned benefit is you won't suffer from back trouble or tiredness as often.
I have tried several; the ones I wear daily are Comp-Tac CONTOURED, double layer, kydex reinforced, with velcro sewn in (I like the V-clips, so no one sees holster clips on my belt at all, I've heard some people are "made" by their clips showing when tucked; not that that is illegal or anything, I just prefer more concealment)
You can get them on sale often, for closer to $50, and sometimes they have "scratch and dent" sales too.
TIP: Signing up for the newsletter lets you find out about the sales before others, who often say "They only had waist size 30 on sale when I looked"
I mostly use a Rob Durham Comfort Carry holster with Conp-Tac's V-clips, but also often use a J-clip (under the belt J-hook clip) Nylon Desantis Tuck This 2 holster, which has an integrated spare mag holder and easily adjustable cant/reverse cant (not a bad holster at all for less $ until you want leather on your skin). I did need to use pliars to open the J-clip a little, due to the thicker belt, and I put some WalMart Sticky backed Velcro on the J'clip where t goes under the belt.

And 1s1k52, I've met austinrealtor (a prince and scholar, by the way), but his "well-formed middle-age gut" is a rank amateur compared to my own truly masterful gut on a 5'10 frame.austinrealtor wrote:I'm 6-1 and about 275 with a well-formed middle-age gut and I'm able to conceal full-size Glocks, M&P etc. under T-shirts when I need to.
I've carried everything from a 3" 1911 to a USP Compact to a full-sized M&P 45 to a 5" 1911, both IWB and OWB, with shorts or with long pants, with T-shirts or with dress shirts. You'll have no problem concealing a subcompact XD .40. None at all.
A good gunbelt is critical. Like austinrealtor says, it doesn't have to be an $80 belt. Personally, I use a Wilderness Tactical "Instructors Belt" most of the time; but I also own a good leather belt from D.M. Bullard. The problem with a regular leather belt is that it just isn't stiff enough to keep from sagging outward under the weight of the gun. Plus, it is really embarrassing to have your belt stretch enough that the weight of your gun makes your pants fall down at church.

wow that is really one way to get this point across HA HA. That is awesome. Ok well I guess I will put about a 200 budget. which will cut into my "next gun" money BUT it is what it is. Awesome advice all around. Thanks.

That actually happened to my dad before he passed away; he was a Deacon without a proper belt.your pants fall down at church
(Almost all our Deacons are armed, as are almost all I've known at the same "denomination" churches across Texas)
He later added suspenders AND a belt, I just got good belts instead.
I generally carry 3 to 4 guns to church, in case a Deacon, or fellow CHL in the pews forgot theirs (Retired LEO and spouse sit close to me, she carries, he used to say toss him one if needed, though lately he's got his 1911 on)
It's getting kinda funny though .... you can tell a Deacon by their belt, even if no shirt bulge or holster clip shows.
You have no idea if they are armed today, but they all have nice new belts.

I wear long Tees along with guayabera shirts, tissues in lower pockets to create extra "bulges" comfortable and handy pockets for stuff, side slits allow slack for drawing a weapon, I keep them unbuttoned. guayabera shirt run the full price spectrum, from 2for$15.00 to $100.00 each, depending on materials/cotton/polyester/silk etc... I get the cheapies; Tee-shirts, I usually pay about $9.00-$14.00 each.
