Uncle Mike's or UTG?

#1

Post by allinhtown »

Anyone here have any reviews of Uncle Mike's holsters or UTG? A buddy of mine recommended those in particular. Any advice?

I'm looking for a holster for my new Sig P250, .40 S&W, but I havent had a chance to make it someplace to check some out. I'm not dead set on these two brands either... looks like everyone here likes something different? :P Any P250 owners on here?

Do you have an idea about: ankle, IWB, OWB, tuckable, leather, Kydex, Crossbreed?

Gun selection is easy. Holster selection is hard.

Actually, I have no idea. So I'm open to any and all suggestions. I'm trying to decide between IWB/OWB, and leather/kydex. Kydex looks like it would scratch the gun or something. I've checked out Uncle Mike's nylon holsters, those look pretty durable and easy on the gun.

Both the brands you mention are relatively inexpensive - enough so that you could buy both and not be out much money.
I've used a number of Uncle Mike's pocket holsters and they work fine for me.
But holsters are a personal thing. What works for me might not work for you.

Kydex holsters, there's only one - - - Comp Tac. Leather holsters, I like Don Hume, and High Noon for off the shelf. Custom leather/kydex it's your choice of maker. The nylon holsters aren't for serious use IMHO. I use off the shelf holsters because I don't like waiting months even years and paying 50-100% more to get a custom holster that is only marginally better than a quality off the shelf.

allinhtown,
hi, by the look of your username , you live in houston..sorry bout that.
i went to Collectors Firearms recently to pick up my Galco Gun Leather OWB holster.

they have a fairly large selection . a salesperson went out of his way to help me select the perfect holster for my needs.
some folks say "dont go cheap "...this is good advice.

also, i discovered that one holster is not enough . personally, i have OWB for certain clothes including cooler weather applications.very comfortable.

IWB for hot days when wearing just a t-shirt . and finally a discrete waist pack for the heck of it.

I know NOTHING about UTG holsters, didn't even know they made holsters. What I do know about them is about their AR-15 products. I have read a lot on a couple of forums about UTG stuff being airsoft stuff. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I have a set of UTG quad rails on my Bushmaster an they are AOK in my book. The price is RIGHT, and they are solid as a rock. A marine buddy of mine said they were better than the rails on his issue M-4/M16. As far as Unkle Mikes, I have an IWB "holster" that is really just a cloth sheath with a plastic belt clip that I sometimes use to carry my G-27 at the 6 o-clock position and it's okay, but no retention. Also had an Unkle Mikes kydex for my XD and it was ok, good retention, but almost hard to get the pistol out, and LOUD. I now use a Blackhawk Serpa bought at Academy for about $27.

ooh... thanks for the input everyone...

i ordered both an IWB and a OWB nylon holster from uncle mike's. Hopefully it should hold me awhile, at least until I find a better one. Maybe I'll stop by Collector's Firearms and check out what they have one of these days...

I have heard a lot of great things about Comp-Tac. I'll be checking them out too.
